There are plenty of ways to change the cell background. What exactly do you miss? And ultimately isn't this a question for ask.libreoffice.org rather than a request for enhancement?

Pulling out my crystal ball... the selection highlight color depends by default on the system theme and, in contrast to alternative office tools, you can customize it to your liking. Tools > Options > Appearance: Customization, Accent color is what you are looking for. Works for you?

(Please write a few lines; use one of the many tools to translate your native language, if needed. A plain image is serves well to illustrate your words but text comes first.)

=> WFM, as at 25.8.0b1 you can 'Enable application theming' from Tools -> Options -> Appearance and use the Customization listbox to apply a desired color to both 'Accent color' and 'Cell focus'. OK and then restart.

But, each LO module would need its own theme "customized" to your liking--and then the nuisance of restart to apply depending on the module.

Beyond that, the Appearance theme "framework" would need substantial rework to support appearance theming for UI elements of each module.

IMHO at this point, not worth the grief it would cause users--implementing Appearance theming at 25.2 with major rework for 25.8 is already too painful.

-1 and => WF for module specific UI Appearance theming.

Alternatively you may also change the accent color in your system theme. More generally we follow the mantra to obey the system settings, unlike "competitors". The look and feel of LibreOffice is supposed to blend into the operating system / desktop environment, and we pick default colors from it. Our second design principle is to allow customization of most aspects. If you believe, however, that cell selection must not follow the accent/highlight color we may discuss another setting in a different ticket. Changing the background color, or actually the selection highlight color, works as requested (maybe you need to wait for 25.8).

I agree, system style is great but in Windows If you change colour of windows theme because you need blue underline for dockpanel, all apps which use blue from system looks hardly.(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #9)
