Description george 2025-08-17 10:52:35 UTC
Description:
When using LibreOffice Calc with the default "Mint-Y-Dark" theme on Linux Mint, the scrollbars adopt a color that is nearly identical to the dark background. This makes them effectively invisible until the user hovers over them with the mouse, at which point they are highlighted.

Please note that this issue is compounded by a separate, known bug where characters in the LibreOffice Math formula editor are invisible when using dark themes. As a result, I am currently forced to use the custom "Light Application Color" theme within LibreOffice. A dedicated option for scrollbar color would allow me to maintain visibility for both the scrollbar and text in the Math editor, without being dependent on system-level theme fixes.

This issue significantly impacts user experience and accessibility. Users are forced to "hunt" for the scrollbar, which disrupts workflow and can be frustrating for long documents or spreadsheets.

This problem is particularly critical for users who need to use a dark system theme for other accessibility reasons (e.g., to reduce eye strain). The lack of a visible scrollbar is a key usability flaw.

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Set the operating system's theme to "Mint-Y-Dark" on a Linux Mint installation.
2) Set theme "Light Application Color" within libre office writer or calc
3) Observe the scrollbars on the right and bottom of the sheet.

Actual Results:
The scrollbars are either completely invisible or have very low contrast with the background, making them difficult to locate at a glance.

Expected Results:
The scrollbars should be easily visible and distinguishable from the background, regardless of the system theme or a separate bug affecting a different component of the suite.

Reproducible: Always
