Description Uralion 2025-08-21 07:05:14 UTC
Description:
Hi,
New release v25.8 crashes when I open some files created in previous versions.
After the crash two things happen:
1. A LibreOffice proccess is keep running and won´t close until manually doing so in the task manager. Sometime with greate CPU consumption. It happens specially in Writer app. I don´t know if somethign similar happens with Calc or others...
2. The recovery process does not work and when trying to save a backup, it crashes again.

So at this point it is impossible to my knowledge to open some of my files with this version.

After downgrading to v25.2.5.2 every thing works again.

I have set Reproducibility to 'Happens every time' because, although it does not occur with all files, with the files where it does occur, it always does so.

Thank you!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a Writer file created with previous versions (not all files)

Actual Results:
- Crash happens.
- LibreOffice process keeps running in the background.
- Backup process fails.

Expected Results:
File opens normally like in previous versions.

Reproducible: Always

Hoenstly, a file is not needed.
To reproduce in my system is as easy as I thought:
- Open context menu in Windows desktop.
- Create new OpenDocument file.
- Open the created file.
- Crash.
Comment 6 Uralion 2025-08-21 09:24:05 UTC
P.S.: Sorry I correct the line:
- Create new Writer OpenDocument file.
It must be a Writer file.

Based on the crashreport, it looks like a duplicated of bug 167956
Could you please try with a daily build from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-25-8/Win-x86_64@tb73-TDF/current/ and see if the issue is gone ?

No, this version does not resolve the problem.
Still happening.

I would greatly appreciate an explicit confirmation or 'cannot reproduce' before changing the status again.

Could you please paste the info from Help - About LibreOffice ?

Yes, here you are:
Version: 25.8.0.4 (X86_64)
Build ID: 48f00303701489684e67c38c28aff00cd5929e67
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: es-ES
Calc: CL threaded

However, I confirm that what is causing the crash is the tabbed user interface.
The crash no longer occurs once a different type of interface is set.

that's not the version from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-25-8/Win-x86_64@tb73-TDF/current/ where bug 167956 is fixed, that's LibreOffice 25.8.0.4, the same version as originally reported.
After your comment regarding the tabbed UI, I'm pretty sure it's duplicated of bug 167956

You are right...I am sorry! I didn´t know more than one version could be installed, so I tested 25.0.4 instead...but as you said, 25.8.1 is working perfectly fine with tabbed interface!
Sorry again and thank you!
Comment 13 Uralion 2025-08-21 14:03:14 UTC
Just to clarify, I didn´t do that in purposse (testing in 28.5.0.4)! I just don´t create desktop shortcuts and that is the reason I didn´t notice 28.5.1 was installed next to the release version.
