When formatting the text box in columns the properties display the amount of columns, but only one column displays. Only one column is visible and can be filled with text. Correct. Text annotation of basic draw shapes can not be formatted into columns. Columns require a frame. Supported by use of the Insert -> Frame -> 'Frame Interactively' to draw your text box. Then set its properties to number of columns needed. Use the Insert -> More Breaks -> 'Insert Column Break' to advance text between columns.
