Description Carl Fink 2025-09-02 00:49:21 UTC
I have a habit of starting a comment with Ctrl-Alt-C while the cursor is inside a word. If I do that, say with the word "ablative", and the comment anchor (the little triangle) is between "l" and "a", Find won't match it. Comments, by definition, should not be considered part of the text and should not affect Find or Replace.

Not reproducible for me with :

Version: 25.8.2.0.0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 01a4db02715ff12bfed0425784eccfca9ac47d41
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR
Ubuntu_22.04_x86-64
Calc: default

Please, could you provide a test file with which you encounter this issue.
And add a step by step procedure to reproduce the problem.

Set status to needinfo, reset it back to unconfirmed once requested information is provided.

Best regards. JBF

ODT file which can be used to demonstrate bug

Steps to replicate bug:

1)Open the sample document attached.
2)Press Ctrl-F to open the find panel(?) at the bottom of the LO Writer window.
3)Enter 'denouncing' and press Enter.
4)Watch it not match that word in the text, which has a comment anchored in the middle of it.
5)Delete the only comment in the document.
6)Click the down-arrow icon in the Find panel.
7)Watch it match.

Thank you for your answer. I can't still reproduce the bug. Following your steps to reproduce the bug, the word "denouncing" is highlighted at the end of step 3.

What is your Linux distribution and your desktop environment? Mine are Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Gnome. How did you install your version of LibreOffice?

Best regards. JBF

Hi. This box is running Devuan daedalus. I'm currently using Xfce4.

LO 25.2.4.3 build 33e196637044ead23f5c3226cde09b47731f7e27 installed by downloading a deb from libreoffice.org.

I installed 25.2.5.2-2, and the behavior changed. It's still wrong, but less wrong. Now it matches the word "denouncing" in the comment itself, but not in the document body.

If you like, after posting this I can log out and back in with GNOME.

I cannot reproduce with Version: 26.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 8ea8e254a3151f5390f3a10ff156fcaf8e7c5d5c
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: cs-CZ (cs_CZ.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I can find word "denouncing" and the word is selected after enter.

Working fine for me in 25.2 and the latest master on Linux.

The only time this happens is, if you use the Find and Replace dialog and check "Comments". You can't search through comments via the Quick Find bar. Did you use the dialog and if so, can you check what is activated there?
