Description Michael Jenkins 2025-09-11 20:26:42 UTC
Description:
Hello.
Please help.
I love LibreOffice.

In the last two weeks,
I have been working hard in LibreOffice Calc,
and I have been creating Charts successfully,
with 'Years' being displayed correctly,
as 4 digit numbers, along the X-axis.
This was in LibreOffice 25.8.1.1.

Then, still in LibreOffice 25.8.1.1,
for an unknown reason, this evening,
when I create any Chart with my normal data,
the 'Years' only display as 2 digit relative values to the first year.

I have tried everything I know,
and the problem will not correct itself.

This is really distressing,
I really need my Charts to be correct,
without the correct 4 digit years,
my Charts won't make sense,
I am working on preparing,
to submit my article to a science journal,
with all my Charts.

This Error does not seem to be manually correctable,
and this Error seems to be LibreOffice,
deciding to do something automatically,
that is not wanted by the user,
that is beyond user control.

Please help,
this error is critical,
and really distressing.

I have been able to be really productive,
in LibreOffice recently.
I love LibreOffice.

Please Help.
Thank You.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create Table
2. Column A = 4 digit years
3. Column B = any sequence of numbers
4, Create Chart
5. In 'Data Range' select 'First columns as lablel'
6. Select Line Chart.
7. Select Finish.
8. View Chart.

Actual Results:
9. X-axis 'Years' appear as 2 digit relative numbers.
10. try again and again
11. Same fault always occurs

Expected Results:
12. X-axis 'Years' should be 4 digit years as in Column A.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Using Charts.
Charts are so important.

Bug. Years only showing as relative numbers not 4-digit years.

Thank you for your reply.
I am sure this is a bug.

Here is a sample spreadsheet,
with the bug appearing in the chart.

In the chart, the 4-digit years,
are only showing as relative numbers.
Comment 3 Michael Jenkins 2025-09-12 06:13:03 UTC
Hello.
Thank you for your help.

That problem appeared in LibreOffice 25.8.1.1

In order to test the problem,
I have just reverted to LibreOffice 25.2.0.3

I have just opened this attached file,
and in the same chart,
the years do correctly show as 4-digit years.

So, this is a bug in LibreOffice 25.8.1.1
in LibreOffice Calc.

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 6 Michael Jenkins 2025-09-12 11:00:03 UTC
Yes, I have done that test,
I have restarted LibreOffice in Safe Mode,
and that did not solve the problem,
the problem still persisted.

Looks really strange, that number is not a date, so except there is something changed in your file, I can't think about anything going to the issue.
Comment 8 Buovjaga 2026-01-20 13:28:24 UTC
I recreated the chart within the file per how the existing was done and I didn't see any problem even then.

Five Global Warming Datasets with Graphs.

This is the LibreOffice Spreadsheet file,
that I was concerned about.

Hello M A Riosv.
Hello Buovjaga.

Thank you so much for your kind replies.
I am now in LibreOffice 25.2.0.3
Happily, I have just tested my LibreOffice Spreadsheet file,
and the four digit years do display correctly, thank you !
Best wishes, Michael.

Aha, but in your comment 3 you said the problem was seen in 25.8 and not in 25.2.

I looked at your new file and checked all the charts by using the Navigator in 25.8, but everything seemed fine.
Comment 12 Michael Jenkins 2026-01-20 15:07:41 UTC
Wow, thank you Buovjaga,
yes, I see what you mean,
I think I reverted to 25.2,
to avoid the apparent problem in 25.8,
I may now have to update for 25.8.
I have just donated £10 to LibreOffice.
