Description Christopher 2025-09-28 20:29:47 UTC
Description:
This is very difficult for me to explain, but whenever I save a text file in OpenDocument and re-open it, it seems to stop using the fonts, colors, and formatting (such as lists or bold text) that I used. It seems to work okay after I change it back and save the file again, but it's still frustrating to deal with.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Typing something out, then changing the text with fonts, bold, italics, etc.
2. Saving the file, exiting the program
3. Reopening the text file through said program

Actual Results:
The text stopped using the desired formatting. No bold text, or lists, or the font I wanted to use.

Expected Results:
Use the formatting I wanted.

Reproducible: Always

Hi, Christopher, one solution can be to install 25.8.2 version (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/?type=win-x86_64&version=25.8.2&lang=en)

Another solution, if that one does not work, it to reset your user profile.
(<https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile>) and
re-test?

Tried both of these just now; didn't work.

ok, definitely not a bug.

your file is indeed in "plain text", i,e no formattings.

please select "Text ODF" to save a proper sample.odt
as described for example here:
https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/01/01070000.html
https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/guide/doc_save.html

maybe check also the default file format :

I tried doing this, the problem is that when I create a new OpenDocument text file and try saving it, it won't let me use the "Save As" option at first. I need to save it normally, the re-open the file and only then will I be able to save the file as you described.

Can't confirm this. There might be a problem with your user profile. Could you please test in SafeMode?

Alright, I did; it seems to work, but in Safe Mode the "Save As" option is still greyed out.

It should work. Can't say, why it doesn't work for you and I can't conform that behaviour.
