Description Eyal Rozenberg 2025-10-28 22:14:04 UTC
1. I think the relative order of some of the user data fields, in the prefs dialog, is sub-optimal/inappropriate:

* The name fields should precede the Organization name (currently "company" name, bug see bug 169121). You are "Joe Smith, The Document Foundation", not "The Document Foundation's Joe Smith".

* On the other hand, the title/position is too far away from the name fields. It should be either just before the name, or just after the name - not separated by the city, country and zip code...

2. Right now, all of your user data appears "Address". That's silly... your name is not part of your address.

* I suggest we separate the address+phone+fax+email fields from the other data (perhaps call it "identity & affiliation" ? Or not give it a title at all?).

3. Instead of label-per-field, we have start-of-row labels - with two or three text boxes. That seems like a bad idea, and kind of confusing for the use; we don't do elsewhere IIRC.

No objection from my side.

Nit-picking...

The alternative does not sound like an improvement.

The alternative, to either label each field on cost of input field width or to place the controls underneath each other, is not better either.

We discussed the topic in the design meeting and suggest to separate the content into two sections

First section could be labeled "Identification" with the fields First/Middle/Last Name, Title/Position, Company (we considered to split company from the other information but rejected this as the single input field would feel orphaned).

The second section "Contact information" contains Street, Zip/City, Country/Region, Telefon (Home/Work), Fax/Email.

It would be good to avoid fields with loosely related content next to each other. It might either be stacked or the fields get individual labels. Up to the doer to decide.
