I imagine that you right click where the border is or is supposed to be and it offers you to create or erase a border in the context menu. So it is easy and works like a puzzle

And maybe you could even customise each border this way like change its colour, thickness, style and so on. I would absolutely use it if it existed as I imagine, nothing could be cooler than that

Right click opens the context menu, we should not override this default behavior. And ctrl+M clears direct formatting including the border. I believe it's easy enough. => WF

Maybe you're right. But it can be also in context menu, you'll just make it a bit taller when clicking on a border

Yes, you can customize the context menu to your linking. I suggest to use some cell style. We provide the Clear Direct Formatting by default in the context menu and that's sufficient for the task.
