Description j.a.swami 2025-12-11 14:59:40 UTC
Description:
Today Writer suddenly opened a message (spanning the top of the app window, if I recall) advising me to install some language file pertaining to (if I have it right) "fi-FL."

The message also advised me to click on it for further information. Clicking led to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language/Support. That page gave no clue of what I was supposed to install, nor why, nor where it might be found.

My language is English (US), and I have no need of other languages.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.I began with an already existing odt document I had been working on with a colleague (who uses Word on Mac).
2. While editing, I saw the message display, for no apparent reason.
3. The error has occurred for me only once, so I have no other STR.

Actual Results:
As described, a message displayed advising me to install a language-related file named (if I recall) "fi-FL." Clicking on the message led to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language/Support.

* That page was so broad in scope as to be confusing.
* Entering "fi-FL" (or either component) in the search box marked "Language" (as one might assume one was meant to do) produced no result.
* I was unable to find any language matching the criteria "fi-FL" (or either of the two).

Expected Results:
1. Writer shouldn't have advised me to install something for which I have no need.
2. If it really thought I needed to install a file or language known by a cryptic four-letter identifier, it should have decrypted the letters and told me in plain words what file or language was intended.
3. If it wanted to help by sending me to a language-support page, it should have sent me to the particular page where I would find what I was supposed to install.
4. Alternatively, it could have sent me to a simple, uncomplicated page telling me step by step what to do (Go to page X, then search for language Y, or whatever).

Reproducible: Always

Clicking "Learn more" is what leads to the confusing help page (and makes the original message disappear).

Please past here the information in Menu>Help>About LibreOffice. (There is an icon in the middle to copy it)
