Description KiR 2025-12-30 21:28:08 UTC
Description:
In Writer, when inserting a cross‑reference via "Insert > Field > More Fields...", under the "Cross‑references" tab, after selecting "Table" or "Figure" Type, the user must choose an option in the "Refer using:" list.

One of the most common actions is to insert the table number or the figure number. However, the current English source string for this option is simply: "Number". This wording is too vague (unlike e.g. "Page number (unstyled)" which clearly indicates what is being referenced).

The vagueness affects all translations, including French.

I would suggest making the meaning explicit, e.g.: "Table number" and "Figure number". If dynamically changing the label is not easely feasible, even a less explicit fallback such as "Object number" would already be much clearer than the current term.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open any .odt document containing numbered tables and/or figures.
2. Go to Insert > Field > More Fields...
3. Open the "Cross‑references" tab.
4. Select "Table" or "Figure" in the "Type" list.
5. In the “Refer using" list, search which option allows you to insert the Table/Figure number.

Actual Results:
The is no explicit "Table/Figure number" option.

Expected Results:
There is a "Table/Figure number" option.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry, I forgot (again...) to specify: string is "FMT_REF_NUMBER" or "FMT_REF_ONLYSEQNO" (LibreOffice UI - master/sw/messages).
