Description Stephen 2026-01-01 16:26:44 UTC
In Writer, the value of an inserted "Page Count" field changes when the number of pages changes, but the value of a "Page Count in Range" does not.

At the moment, you have to remove the field and add it back in again.

Please attach a sample file, reduced as much as possible, without private information.

Please paste here the information in Menu>Help>About LibreOffice.

(There is an icon in the center to copy the information).

As requested.

I edited the Footers, them deleted 60 pages from this file. The page Count in Range stayed at 67 even after saving / closing and re-opening the file.

Are you sure the feature is available in docx-format? I do not find it in Word.

Use odt-format and the field will work as intended.

Yes, that feature does exist in MS Word (207 here). It uses SectionBreaks and SectionPages.

Please see the screenshots attached above (i thought that they would be attahced to this post, but they got posted separately.

On further testing - I saved the file into .odt, re-opened it and add the Page Count in Range again. Now this field updates when I add/remove pages but the original one (which was added when the document was a .docx file) does not update.

I saved that doc in the .docx format. On re-opening, and remving pages netiher of the "page Count in Range2 fileds were updated.

I have finally found it in Word.
It seems, both import and export are wrong. In both cases the 'field' is replaced with a static number.
