Description jetfire2012 2026-01-05 10:59:07 UTC
Description:
When I am in the Writer program, I will begin a new paragraph by hitting the Tab button to indent the first line of the paragraph. However, when I have reached the end of the paragraph, and hit the Enter button to begin a new paragraph, this results in the Tab indent of the previous paragraph coming undone.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Hit the Tab button to indent the beginning of a new paragraph
2.Write several lines of text to fill out the paragraph.
3.Hit Enter to begin a new paragraph.

Actual Results:
The indentation of the paragraph comes undone.

Expected Results:
The indentation applied by the Tab key should remain in place.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Happens every time; I have noticed this consistently in the latest LibreOffice release.

This is by design. Under Tools → Autocorrect → Autocorrect options → Options tab you'll find entries that delete spaces and tabs at the beginning/end of paragraphs and lines, all of them enabled by default.

Indents are better managed (and automated!) through paragraph style settings, just go to the Space and indenting tab on the paragraph style you use (Body Text, for example) to set the "first line indent." There is no need to insert a tab every new paragraph.
