Description Mike Smith 2026-01-05 22:25:14 UTC
Description:
I can no longer anchor images to a page, this is claimed to be a feature but in my case it is definitely a bug. The older versions which did not have this issue are not available for download but fortunately I have a copy on an old machine. For the moment I can use that to anchor the image to a page, then copy that to the new document but this may not be possible in future versions. I am working on a 500 page technical document with over 2,000 illustrations, so every edit requires a check of all images to make sure they are still appropriately placed. Nowhere in the documentation can I find a sensible work-around for this issue.
I was not able to find any mention in the existing bug reports.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add image to text on a 2-column page
2.Edit the text - Image moves and all the subsequent images move
3.

Actual Results:
It is necessary to then proof-read the entire document, re-positioning images but as paragraphs can cross columns that may require a paragraph to be broken to facilitate re-placement, then any further changes require a similar process.

Expected Results:
On earlier versions I could anchor illustrations and diagrams to a page, so editing the text did not result in all the images moving around. Now they can go haywire and require hours of adjustment to get them back into some semblance of order, until the next edit.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
It would be nice if the original option was restored, perhaps with a pop-up warning about whatever it was that was causing issues for people with this facility.

The feature still exists. However, most users use it incorrectly. Therefore, direct access from the anchor drop-down list has been removed from the user interface.

Your use case too sounds as if you should anchor the image to character or paragraph and _position_ it relative to page.

Right-click the image and select "Properties" from the context menu or select the image and press F4 key. Use tab "Position and Size" in that dialog. You find anchoring to page top right.
