Description:
Attempting to convert a pdf file of 1240 pages w/graphics to odt. The statistics thus far are:
[1] Over 4 hrs. of CPU time 
[2] Over 3& of CPU utilization on an AMD RYZEN 9 7950X.
[3] Over 9.5 Gb of memory used.
[4] LibreOffice unable to start another instance.

I will be terminating the conversion in about 1 - 2 hours.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LO writer on a very, very large pdf file w/graphics.

Conversion of pdf completion with odt file displayed

I don't think it is the right tool to do it. LibreOffice it is not a PDF editor.

As far as I know, LO has never provided an adobe converter. But, LO has always allowed input of a pdf file, converting it into a number of Drawing pages. That being said, there is a failure in LO acceptance of a pdf file.

And thank you for suggesting that LO be enhanced to include a pdf converter. This would be much appreciate. If you include an interpreter you might's well also include an OCR reader, to convert bitmaps into letters/tables as required. And, in this mode it may be a good thing to perhaps integrate one of the existing OCR's into LO rather than starting anew. I have heard that tesseract (a 2-D version of a 4-D figure) is good.

Anyhow, thanks. A pdf converter is an excellent idea.
