Description jose.guaba 2026-01-25 01:22:43 UTC
Description:
I would like to request the inclusion of a built‑in thesaurus in LibreOffice Writer. While the program already provides spell‑checking and dictionary support, many users rely on a thesaurus to improve their writing style, find synonyms, and avoid repetition.

Use Case: Students, professionals, and writers often need quick access to synonyms without leaving the application. Currently, users must rely on external tools or extensions, which interrupts workflow.

Benefit: Adding a native thesaurus would make LibreOffice more competitive with other word processors, improve productivity, and enhance the user experience for non‑native speakers and writers aiming for richer vocabulary.

Thank you for considering this enhancement.

This already exists with integrated MyThes Thesaurus.

But depends on the locale for which Thesaurus data have been built [1]. By os build may require installation of associated language pack, Windows builds prebundle them all. Quality/extent of the thesaurus also varies by language source lists.

The dialog is launched from Tools -> Thesaurus... or with a <Ctrl><F7>, if issues check usage in the Help or the Ask site [2].
