Description Sebastian 2010-10-17 09:58:03 UTC
I do not know if this is the right place (like IssueTraker),
but I wanted to ask if the developers
of LibreOffice may consider an improvement of alphabetical index.

Allowing more than one Alphabetical Index.

This feature would help compatibility with MsWord.
If I wrong, I apologize.

Setting it as enhancement, so that it can be searched/queried easily.

I really need this feature for a variable catalogue i'm making at work and which forces me to use Word. I'm currently making is a list of variable we use in our database. Each variable has all kinds of information, but the most important ones are the name and a number. What i want is to create indexes for at least the variable name and number. I can do this in Word (although not very user friendly) and the resulting index looks something like this.

- By Name -

Name (G100) ..... 1
Surname (G101) .. 2
Birthdate (G102) 3

- By Number -

G100 (Name) ..... 1
G101 (Surname) .. 2
G102 (Birthdate) 3

In LibreOffice, i can add multiple index, but not with unique content. I also tried using multiple concordance files, but that doesn't work either.

I confirm that:
- the need is actual and important
- the lacking feature affect still v.5.1.3.2

Wouldn't it be more useful to make the user-defined indexes more flexible?

Right now, user-defined indexes are fixed to sort by page number. If they were given options to sort by an index key and merge duplicate page numbers then they would emulate alphabetical indexes and the users can create as many as needed.
