Description Yannick Chiron 2011-01-29 08:33:53 UTC
Vertical Text button can't be added to Drawing bar.

Trying to do so, it adds it for half a second and disappears suddenly.
I tried for other buttons and there is no problem for them.

This problematic behavior isn't shown in OOo 3.3.0.

Reproduced in Mac OS X; LibreOffice 3.3 final.
Thanks to report this bug.

Kind regards

I changed the platform from "Mac OS X" to "All" since I verified the same behavior on Windows 7 (32bits).

This is not a bug.

A search on OOo forum explained how to get the vertical text bar.

And a search for "Vertical Text Boxes" on LibreOffice Help explains it as well (after scrolling down the page).

To activate it, one must first activate Asian languages support.

It's the same on OOo.

In Microsoft Windows, the path is:

Tools / Options / Language settings / Languages / Enabled for Asian languages
or in French:
Outils / Options / Paramètres Linguistiques / Langues / Activé pour les langues asiatiques

In Mac OS X, the path is:

LibreOffice / Preferences… / Language settings / Languages / Enabled for Asian languages
or in French:
LibreOffice / Preferences… / Paramètres Linguistiques / Langues / Activé pour les langues asiatiques

This IS a bug.

Whatever logic lead you to state "it's not a bug, just go enable some random unrelated setting to get it to work" is FLAWED.

I'm certain the developers of the toolbar did not intend for you to have to enable asian languages to get the toolbar to work. If they did, the software should be smart enough to tell the user to enable the option, or better yet, allow them to quickly enable it on the fly when adding the vertical text button.

I had to use google, and read this bugtrack to figure out how to use a feature/function that is intended to be user friendly.

This is a bug.

Closing again as NotABug because it works as designed.
If you think that the current behavior is not optimal or should be other, please open a new bug report with the "importance" field set at "enhancement".

Best regards. JBF
