Description sasha.libreoffice 2011-02-26 04:22:09 UTC
To reproduce this problem on Linux 64 bit do Tools->Media Player. Opens player. In left bottom corner of it is button Open. Open any file in ogg format and press button play.
It not works.

If open wav file, it works.

In openoffice on Linux 64 not works too.
On windows and Linux 32 bit it works ok.

Other formats I have not tested because only ogg always works on Linux.

Radek, That one is for you for sure.

Currently I even can't insert .ogg files to "LibreOffice 3.3.1 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19 (build 8 / tag 3.3.1.2)]", so I am astonished to read "On windows and Linux 32 bit it works ok"

Steps to reproduce:
1. open new presentation
2. Menu 'Insert > Movie and Sound'
3. Browse for a sample.ogg and insert
   Expected: sample.ogg should be inserted, represented by a placeholder
             (so it does for a sample.mp3)
   Actual: Error message "The format of the selected file is not supported"

Same problem in WRITER documents.

I can't find out whether LibO supports .ogg, but of course, it should. Until further information enhancement: support ogg

Same problem with OOo 3.4-dev and 3.0 (or 3.1?) on a 32bit PC with WIN XP

@sasha.libreoffice@gmail.com:
Please contribute a step by step instruction how to reproduce the problem and attach a sample document 8but please respect copyright!)

I can not add music, it is 1,1Mb size. It is not important. Any other ogg my be used. Or mp3, it also not works.
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-03-01 04:06:36 UTC
I can't reproduce reporter's result.

I downloaded
<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/c/cc/Thierbach.ogg>
and I can't insert that ogg-vorbis or play in Media player as I wrote in
Comment 2.

@sasha
It is urgently necessary that you contribute a sample.ogg file or a link to a public sample file that leads to your results.
Comment 6 sasha.libreoffice 2011-03-01 07:07:14 UTC
I have downloaded this file:
<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/c/cc/Thierbach.ogg>
And it behaves identically to my file. No sense use other file.
To open file from LibreOffice, file must have right extension. It is another bug.
If delete extension from this file, it becomes inaccesible.
Verify extension of Your file.
Comment 7 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-03-01 08:27:33 UTC
@sasha:
Of course, my document has the correct extension .ogg
Please avoid such weak expressions like "becomes inaccesible", but tell what really happens. An Error Message?

Currently it seems that your LibO accepts a not supported file format, and then you can't perform it because format is not supported, but I may be wrong.

I will try to find an expert on IRC

Sorry if I have written womething wrong. Mybe mistranslated or misspelled.
To preven this this problem in future, please, explain me meaning of this word.

@sasha:
We will have to find out why we have different obervations with "Thierbach.ogg", but currently I do not have any idea what we could check. Your instruction in "Play_ogg_problem.odt" seems to show that your proceeding is identical with mine.

On IRC I onfortunately only got some very general hints and half of them I did not understand. What the heck is "DirectShow" on WIN computers?

May be you want to have a look on
Bug 34892 - Unable to play videos in Impress ?
Comment 10 sasha.libreoffice 2011-03-02 04:51:31 UTC
Direct Show is subsystem of Windows that responsible for codecs.
This bug is more simply: if not works then it is a bug.
Problem my be the same.
Comment 11 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-03-02 06:02:24 UTC
I found the "format of the selected file is not supported" [reproducible] on 2 other XP PC with LibO and OOo3.1.1. Seems to be some bug heritage from OOo? Unfortunately OOo bugzilla currently is down, I will check later whether there have been activities concerning this problem.

Currently, because several types are conceRning, I believe it's a common problem and activities should be concentrated here under this very general heading, if necessary, other Bug reports can be splitted for particular file types.

For now I modify status to ASSIGNED
