This is what I get both on Windows XP (LOo 3.3.1) and on Fedora (3.3.2.2-6.fc15.x86_64) for slide 11 in Chapter04-new.pptx at <http://www.box.net/shared/p3fa1bukgs> (file attached). Others show similar messupts. Presumably (?) native PowerPOint doesn't show the text overwriting...

Many other slides in the set mentioned above show the same text overprinted.

Reproduced (on slide 11), and yes, when re-saved as ppt Impress opens it correctly.

I have witnessed this, as well. It is a constant on opening PPTX files, although selecting all the text, deleting it with <CTL><X>, saving & re-opening shows the text to be deleted.

Not reproducible with LO 4.0.0.3. (Win7 Home, 64bit) in this way anymore.
Slide 11 looks ok for me in LO and MSO 2007, even after resaving it as odp and ppt.

But the title slide is now buggy:  
in LO: Wrong font size when saved as ppt, odp and pptx.  In the pptx file the titles are in addition displaced.
in MSO 2007: When opening the as ppt and pptx resaved files there are wrong font sizes and the titles are displaced and in addition in the pptx file some slides are corrupted.

Could not reproduce. Slide 11 and others are OK.  
Marking as RESOLVED WORKSFORME also per comment 4.
Do not hesitate to reopen in case of mistriage.

Any other problems should be filed as new bug reports.
