I believe the basic problem is not the use of different looking icons but use of basic ellipse / rectangle instead of shape ellipse / rectangle

it is Tango theme. An in Writer 2 icons resembles Galaxy theme. reproduced in LibO 3.5.0 beta 1 on Fedora 64 bit
On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated yesterday, I can reproduce this.
for me not reproducible with LO 4.3.2.2 (Win 8.1) Does this issue still persist for you or anybody else with the latest release of LO? Otherwise, we can maybe close this issue as resolved.
Ellipse and rectangle are ok now, I put fdo#36796 as RESOLVED/WFM but there are icons present in Impress, not present in others, eg: "Line ends with arrow". Samuel: thought you might be interested in this one.
They have the same icons now.
