Description Konsultor 2011-05-23 08:08:58 UTC
When moving text or photos within a document by drag and drop, the vertical scrolling speed when the cursor reaches the edge is so high that it often over-shoots the target destination. The zones at the top and bottom of the window seem loosely defined and often require horizontal mouse movement to keep scrolling. The high speed is particularly noticeable when moving to an adjacent page, across a page boundary--it is hard to stop ON the boundary area.

My ideal: a graduated zone within which the mouse cursor controls the scrolling speed from >3 seconds per page to >3 pages per second. ( 1/3 sec. < T/p < 3 sec.)

Didn't have to go beyond 3.4.4, in which the scrolling speed, while not ideal, is more controllable. OK for now.

This issue has appeared for me now in LO 4.1.4.2:

"When moving text within a document by drag and drop, the vertical scrolling speed when the cursor reaches the edge [of the window] is so high that it often over-shoots the target destination."

Ubuntu 13.04. I'm using the "libreoffice/ppa" PPA from launchpad.net.

Never confirmed by QA team - should be in UNCONFIRMED status.

Confirmed, the speed could be slowed down a tad. It often just jumps over a whole page with a single touch of the upper or lower edge. Set as enhancement.

Breaks text selection.
Comment 7 MarjaE 2016-03-19 01:27:52 UTC
Since this is an issue in Lunux, Windows, and OS X, changing hardware to "all."

Confirmed. I've been writing books using Writer and the text selection scrolling is set so high (speed wise) as it's functionally useless for the average user. Plenty of user complaints about this bug that can be Googled, so it's a serious usability bug that is a real turn off for users. It makes Writer feel amateurish compared to Word, and should be fixed.
