Currently, when a document is loaded, any detached tool bar is usually displayed at approximately the same relative position to the document as when the document (or same type of document) was last saved. This becomes confusing when several documents with detached toolbars are loaded at the same time. One ends up with detached tool bars covering other documents that one wishes to view at the same time. A better solution would be to add an option allowing absolute positioning of detached tool bars, so an area of the screen could be reserved for detached tool bars, leaving the rest of the screen free for displaying documents. e.g., currently I use the top left corner for tool bars. Frequently I often load several spreadsheets, for viewing at the same time. The current tool bar will vary according to what I'm doing, but it is always at top left, once I have positioned the tool bar for each document and re-saved each document to preserve the tool bar position. The problem is, the next time I load a document, I have to repeat the same process. Without repositioning the tool bars, it is often difficult to select a function in the correct tool bar, as several can be displayed at the same time. If the tool bar configuration had the option for absolute positioning (relative to the screen, and not the document's location), there would be no need to reconfigure the tool bar location each time. Hence the request for the enhancement of absolute positioning of detached tool bars. Note that if it must be done by document type, I would prefer to start with calc. (My hardware is x86, OS is Linux, but it seems unrelated to the issue.)
[This is an automated message.] This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1 more detail on this bulk operation: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RFC-Operation-Spamzilla-tp3607474p3607474.html
Still current in libo 3.4.3 release. Would be surprised if the enhancement were made without a comment here.
Dear bug submitter! Due to the fact, that there are a lot of NEEDINFO bugs with no answer within the last six months, we close all of these bugs. To keep this message short, more infos are available @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/NeedinfoClosure#Statement Thanks for understanding and hopefully updating your bug, so that everything is prepared for developers to fix your problem. Yours! Florian
This is a request for enhancement, and yes it is still needed in Libreoffice 3.5.3.2 (release)
confirmed
Please always use the oldest version in version field..
Ok, but this enhancement request is for a feature that did not exist in Libreoffice from the beginning, neither in Openoffice before. Version 3.4.3 release is the version I was using when I confirmed that it was still valid, 6 months after reporting it. So should it have the first version of Libreoffice ?
As this is about adding an option, let's bring this to the attention of the design team
Many improvements have been done meanwhile but fiddling around with toolbars has become superseded by the discussion around Notebookbars.
