File MS Excel 2003 save format xml

Windows XP SP3 32 bits.

LibreOffice can't open a file save by MS Office 2003 with format "Feuille de calcul XML (*.xml)".
Sheets of LibreOffice is empty and there are not data.

It's perhaps a bug MSOffice because with a save file MSOffice 2007 or MSOffice 2010 LibreOffice can view datas.

I'm put a example file XML can't open.
Comment 1 COGAN 2011-06-20 05:20:44 UTC
It's a similar with LibreOffice 3.3.0 - 3.
Comment 2 Petr Mladek 2011-06-20 11:22:21 UTC
Muthu, could you please check if this file is imported using the right import filter?

I am able to open it in MS Office 2010 but not with LO.

AFAIK, the MS Office 2003 XML file format is used only rarely. The import filter in LO is rather experimental. It is highly recommended to use the widely used file formats MS Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls) or MS Excel 2007 (.xlsx)

Anyway, it is not a regression. It happens with rarely used file format => can't block the release => lowering the severity a bit.
Comment 3 COGAN 2011-06-21 00:25:41 UTC
I'm used a import filter "Microsoft Excel 2003 XML (*.xml)" with open function LO and I'm used "Feuille de calcul XML (*.xml)" (in French language) for save file with MS Office 2003. If used save file with MS Office 2077 or 2010 with the same format is OK for open file with LO.

But my regular environment is MS Office 2003 and LO and my application (with Qt plateform) use a standard format XML (DOM).
Thus, I don't can verify a data in the XML files with LO.

Best Regard.

seems to be related to the xslt file: spreadsheetml2ooo.xsl

could you perhaps provide the same file created with MSO 2007 or 2010? It would make it a bit easier if I can see the difference between the two files

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

Popup window error

The bug is always present in the new version LO 3.5.0
There is now an appearance of a popup window of error with message "Erreur d'entrée/sortie générale". The activation of the button "Cancel" freeze the application.

Best regard.

This is a bug which is a duplicate, or others of this, for a very long time.

It is unacceptable to say use another newer format. XML 2003 has some unique features not found in the newer formats:
a) it is easy to parse, simple --- low cost in time to use
b) can easily be diffed using XML diff tools (ok one has to strip out style info)
b) it is text (not compressed, not a hierarchical directory structure
Other tools (not EXCEL, OO, LO), but self generated can easily written: thus read/modify/write this file format without major investment. At this time we are forced to use EXCEL as both LO and OO crashes when trying to use these files. EXCEL of course has its own burdens. (not Linux; $; and MS).

File inter-operability is one of the keys to a products (LO) success?
Real customers need this feature.

As far as NEEDINFO, pretty much any simple spreadsheet will fail. Doesn't require a formula, just columns of data will do. It does require may 100 rows, 30 cols or so. EXCEL->XML 2003->LO or OO.
a) LO fails to load at all
b) or if LO loads, save once, then exit; then re-load LO,
if loads at all, may take a long time
if loads at all, can save, will hand a long time, then get a file write IO error.
c) as LO loads once, and then saves, the file has removed the EXCEL'ness. I doubt it is an EXCEL issue.

When I try to insert the bugdoc in a Calc sheet (menu Insert > Sheet from file), I get the following error message in the terminal:

namespace error : Namespace prefix ss for Protected on Protection is not defined
<Protection ss:Protected="0"/>
                            ^
Entity: line 2: parser error : Extra content at the end of the document
  </Style>
  ^

Tested with LO version 3.6.0.0.beta3+ (Build ID: eba3ef8) under Ubuntu 11.10 x86_64.

Best regards. JBF
