Description Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-08-16 11:06:22 UTC
On a.m. Page at the end in "... unity if you take time out to report bugs and ..."
"report bugs" contains a link to FDO-LibO default bug report page
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice>

Please replace that link by similar
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED;version=?>

Advantages of that new link:
- Initial State is UNCONFIRMED
- No default Version selected. reporter has to select a LibO version wittingly
Comment 1 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-08-16 11:12:03 UTC
Please also modify the fdo link in the last line of the paragraph.

If you know other links to fdo-LibO bug report page please modify them n the same way.

We have a new situation with an upcoming project "Bug Report Assistant". Fix can wait until we have some more progress there and we can link directly to the assistant.

[This is an automated message.]
This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1

I have modified the last paragraph on the page and updated the links:

Hi Marc, it seems something went wrong, I am a little worried. I am pretty sure that I checked that problem early in the morning, and there was a link on "Get Involved" as the first (wrong) one in the original report.

Now I find a new link
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=LibreOffice&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED>, what leads to a useful page, but
- not to a page where directly a bug can be reported, and the "New" link for a
  report is very unimpressive
- that URL is invalid. It seems Bugzilla ignores the invalid
  "&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED", but you never know.

My suggestion:
Please
a) Modify text "To do this, please create an account for yourself on our bug submission page, and tell us about your problems with LibreOffice" to "To do this, please create an account for yourself on our bug submission page, Browse existing reports and tell us about your problems with LibreOffice. "

b) add Link <https://bugs.freedesktop.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=LibreOffice> to text "Browse existing reports"

c) modify link in text "bug report" to <https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED;version=?>

Hi Rainer,

Are we not also using the "Bug Submission Assistant"? If this is the case, then we could make this section of the paragraph in point form to add clarity. We could write something like the following:

======================

Quality assurance requires patience and attention to detail, but it's essential work. Even if you don't have time to contribute on a regular basis, it's a valuable boost to the project and community if you take time to report bugs and failures you encounter in your everyday use of LibreOffice.

To report bugs please do the following:

* create an account for yourself on our bug submission page (if this is the first time you report a bug to us) or log in to your account. ("bug submission page" links to: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/)

* use the assistant to describe the bug in detail. (Please note: at the "Choose a Subcomponent" step, you will be presented with a list of existing bug reports; please browse through the list to make sure that your bug report is unique. If your bug report is unique, complete and submit the report and log-out. If your bug report is NOT unique, click on the link and add your comment.)

* To abandon the bug submission, browse to any other page on the LibreOffice website.

Please rest assured that every bug report is examined and followed up. Your contributions to our community project are most appreciated. ("every bug report" links to: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED;version)

======================

Would this work better? The steps would be clear to people submitting bugs. I would also suggest that an "Abandon bug report" or a "Log-out" button be added to the "Bug Submission Assistant" page; this will allow any submitter to back out and log out of the process should they change their mind.

Hi Marc,

for now I think your suggestion gives valuable additional information. Long therm most of your comments concerning the assistant should be moved to a Feedback page to keep get involved shorter, but until we have that page, I am very satisfied with your text.

Pleas make sure that the complete Bugzilla Bug submission link with end ";version=?" will be used, I made the experience that the "=?" likes to vanish during copy/paste - don't ask me how and why.

Sorry for the wait.

Please check the page one last time[1] from the paragraph "Quality assurance ..." to the bottom of page.

If every thing is OK with the page it should be labelled "Resolved"

The only thing missing is an "Abandon" or a "Quit" button once a user gets into the "Bug Submission Assistant" because there is no way for a bug reporter to back out if she/he decides to abandon the report. <--- this should be another bug?
