Description Todd 2011-10-27 17:03:55 UTC
I am unable to alter envelope position/insertion on my printer after the envelope is inserted/created. I have to create a new every time to change how I feed my envelope. Would you please fix this for me? Many thanks,-T
Comment 1 Christopher Yeleighton 2012-03-25 11:42:14 UTC
How do you feed your envelope?
It looks like the functionality you desire is not currently supported. However, it is not a bug, so there is nothing to "fix".

Okidata B4350. I use the manual feed: Center Feed Landscape. On LO Writer's Insert, Envelope, Printer (tab), "Envelope Orientation", it is the second from the end.

You are correct. I should have asked this to be an enhancement instead of a bug.

Would you please change the status to Enhancement Request?

Many thanks,
-T

Can you provide explicit steps on what you are hoping to get as an enhancement?

Something like:

Solution:
Steps Provided

So that we are a bit more clear on what you're requesting.

> a) Provide details of your system including your operating system and the latest version of LibreOffice that you have confirmed the bug to be present

Libreoffice 4.1.1.2, 64 bit
Scientific Linux 6.4 64 bit
Okidata B4350 printer (problem is printer independent)

> b) Provide easy to reproduce steps – the simpler the better

1) start LO Writer
2) insert → envelope
3) printer tab
4) pick the wrong “Envelope Orientation”
5) click “Insert”
6) now try to figure out a way to correct the “Envelope Orientation” without erasing and recreating the envelope

Also, please read the original comment. It states the problem much more succinctly

> c) Provide any test case(s) which will help us confirm the problem

You can reproduce this with any printer that shows up in Insert-->Envelope

> d) Provide screenshots of the problem if you think it might help

Nothing to see, except there is no mechanism to correct the mistake

> e) Read all comments and provide any requested information

Please let me know if you need additional information

Comment 10 Brenda Granados 2013-11-07 03:38:51 UTC
Hi,

I am not able to confirm the issue. I followed your steps:

1) start LO Writer
2) insert → envelope
3) printer tab
4) pick the wrong “Envelope Orientation”
5) click “Insert”

After step 5, I returned to the document and went to Insert-> Envelope. From there, I was able to change the Envelope Orientation, and click Modify (changed from the name Insert) at the bottom, and the change was made.

I attached an image of what I saw. If you can verify that I understood your issue, and that you get the same results, or I am mistaken about your issue, or you do not experience the same results, please let me know either way.

no, no, no. Not create a new envelope. Modify a previously created envelope. This is an "editor". Who wants to reinvent the wheel every time you mess up an envelope? The long, long defunct Word Pro even allows you to modify your envelopes.
Comment 12 Brenda Granados 2013-11-09 04:26:26 UTC
When I go to Insert -> Envelope the second time, it's modifying the orientation of the original envelope. I can instantly see the difference on the envelope in the document. It is not creating a new envelope.

When I do that, I insert a second envelope into the document. I need to be able to edit the envelope position of the first envelope, not create a second envelope.

Still and issue under LibreOffice_4.2.5_Linux_x86-64_rpm.tar.gz

In version 4.3.1.0.0+ I only have to insert an envelop again, that open the previous envelop, then I can modify it and the dialog now has a button "Modify" instead of "Insert"

So closing as WorksForMe. Please, feel free to reopen if I am wrong.

Hi JBF,

That does work.

Problem. It is not "intuitive". One does not expect "Insert", meaning "Create a fresh one", to be the mechanism used to modify a "previous" envelope.

Please use this bug report to come up with a method to make the process "intuitive".

Much appreciated,
-T

Really not intuitive? I never use envelope in Writer and I found the mean to modify one immediately. For me it is intuitive.

> "intuitive".

"Make the process intuitive" is not a clear description of your enhancement proposition. What is intuitive for you may not be for others. If you have a clear idea of what could be an intuitive process in this area (create and modify an envelope), please file a new bug report and describe it.
Thank you for your understanding.

Closing again.

Best regards. JBF
