Description ade 2011-11-17 12:51:26 UTC
Add a one click (one key) command to apply a Custom Animation command to selected objects w/o using tasks menus.

I always use the same Custom Animation. I never use any special settings. I bet 99% of the users have the same pattern of usage. Then it is bad design to have a million options one click away but force the users to go through at least two steps to user their standard Custom Animation command.

Suggestion: in the Custom Animation Tasks tab, add a button After "Add..", "Change..." and "Remove" named "Add Default". Let the button do what it says. Let the user set up a Custom Animation the way he/she wants it and then apply it through a single click on that button. Also add a way to trigger that default command using a hotkey.

I counted the Custom Animation options. The popup window has 51 entrance options, 5 different speeds, 28 emphasis alternatives, 51 exit options, 68 motion paths and 3 misc effects. So users can probably choose a unique custom animation option combination for thousands of slides. A lot of snazzy options for sure. But isn't basic functionality and speed of using more important?

I add the suggestion that Impress changes the title "Custom Animation" to just "Animation" to mark a shift from snazzy options to basic functionality.

Thanks for new idea
I agree that this functionality may greatly improve productivity of creating presentations.

Workaround: if we need add the same animation for several drawing objects on the same slide, we can select them all and add animation. It will added to them all. It works only for drawing objects and only on one slide.

this feature is still missing in 4.0.4.2

If the user for screen space reasons wants to keep the tasks pane off as much as possible then each time he/she wants to add a custom animation he/she has to do 5 separate mouse steps:

click view
click tasks pane
click custom animation
click add
click ok (if the animation you want is preset)

Feature missing in 4.2.0.4. Some developer has spent time on the Custom Animation sidebar. However, all they did was add humongous buttons. There is still no hotkey and no way to set a default one-click animation without going through a popup window.

This bug is still there in the latest LO. Consider fixing this for 4.3.
