Example picture of the double shadow

Bug in LibreOffice Draw

Under some circumstances a double shadow is drawn, like you can see in the attached pictuture shadow-example.

Steps for reproduction:
* create a rectangle with the basic shapes menu
* open the styles and formatting menu (F11)
* modify default style
* select shadowing tab and check use shadow

You can also create a new style, which base on the default one.

The expacted behavior is that you can see a simple shadow below the rectangle. Another weird behavior is, when you disable the shadow over the format->area menu you get a simple shadow. Although no shadow should be visible, now.

This bug is not triggered, when you add the shadow over the format->area menu, or when you use another shape.

Also this bug did not occure with version 3.4.3. I can only reproduce it with 3.4.4 (both are release version, on windows and Linux)

[Reproducible] with Parallel Dev-Installation of  "LibreOffice 3.5.0 Beta2- WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [Build-ID : 8589e48-760cc4d-f39cf3d-1b2857e-60db978]

Also Reproducible with WIN7 3.4.1RC and 3.4.2RC, what seems to be not in accordance with reporter's observations.

Currently I have no 3.3 Build available, but the problem also is visible with OOo 3.1.1 SHAPES (not Rectangle), so I believe problem is inherited from OOo.

@borim7@web.de:
Please check your result with 3.4.3!

Problem seems to be limited to rectangle and square

I have checked again with version 3.4.3 and the bug exist there, too.
Sorry for the misinformation.

An example document is attached.

The "Object with shadow" style is also affected. Conversely right-clicking an object with no shadow > Area... > Shadow tab > check "Use shadow" results in only a single (expected) shadow.

I can confirm this under Crunchbang 11 x86_64 running v4.1.3.2 only same two shapes are affected. Would seem to be a non-XML problem as the definitions for circles appears identical in the XML in terms of the shadow elements / attributes.

Informations requested in comment #4 have been provided, so set status back to NEW.

Reproducible for me with version 4.2.0.0.beta1+ under Ubuntu 13.10 x86-64

Best regards. JBF

The bug still exists without any changes.
I have tested on windows 7 with LibreOffice 4.4.1.2
Comment 10 Heiko Tietze 2016-05-03 14:27:21 UTC
One shadow is set for the object itself (area > shadow > Use shadow), the second one comes from the style (edit style > shadowing > Use shadow). I would treat this as a bug since the style predefines properties such as background color, font etc. as well as shadow, and the direct formatting overrides those settings usually.

Observation: Missing the entry Edit Style in the main menu.

Using version 6.0.7.3 I have found a workaround as well as a possible explanation. Here is the process:

 1. Open a new document
 2. Make a square in the center of the page
 3. Apply the "Object with shadow" style, which adds 2 shadows
 4. Select the square, and click the "Shadow" button (located in the centerish of top toolbar)
 5. The square will now have the desired amount of shadow.

The problem still exists in Version: 7.4.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community

If the shadow is provided by a style, an additional shadow is drawn. This additional shadow is drawn too, if the rectangle gets a direct format to not use shadow.
