GUI for FIRST Page formatting ONLY?%*!

One can make the FIRST PAGE ONLY have a portrait orientation and the remainder is landscape. Changes to layout (headers, footers,...) happen to the first page only?? The page layout gui says "Page Style: First Page" and I cannot find a way to change pages 2 -> n. This is really silly.....
Comment 1 Ralph Peters 2012-01-04 12:31:13 UTC
Yes I know that one can set portrait or landscape orientation for the entire report when first making the report. It just seems odd that after the report is "built", one can change the format of only the first page.

Maybe this is not a "bug", maybe its a "feature" :^)

Thanks,
Ralph Peters

To change page orientation in Writer:
1. Press F11, appears Stylist pane
2. Select "Page"category on top of this pane
3. Right click "Default" style and choose "Modify" from context menu
4. Change there page orientation

PS: If I not understand problem, please, tell here

Hi,

I tried your suggestion with a report in the *database* app (not *Writer*)
and F11 doesn't do anything. I was using version 3.4.3 when I tested your
suggestion. Lots of capabilities for formatting appear to be lacking in
Base.

I tried saving the report as a .odt file and was able to change it from
landscape to portrait. However, the change deleted the table heading for
the entire table (title, author, date), so it was not a great change.

Thanks,
Ralph Peters

Sorry for misunderstanding. I first thought that problem is with report, saved in odt document.
Please, provide step-by-step instructions to reproduce this problem. Attach screenshot, what happens before changing format and after. (Consider use spreadsheet as datasource for not show secret information from real database).

I agree with this. But developers much work on improving Base. You can help in providing this information.

In the Report-Generator there is only one page to edit. You can change this page. The following pages would be added with the same format.
You wish a new feature - but how do you want to create such a report? First page only filled with something that isn't in the database (like a title ore something else)?.
If you first save the report to an *.odt-file you can edit this like sasha wrote. You can put a pagebreak with a new format at the first paragraph of the new page. You have to edit the report in the Report-Generator in landscape, when you wish to set the data-content in landscape. When you didn't do this the content hase the width of portrait, becouse it is set in many fileds with a defined width.
Changed Importance to "enhancement" and Status to "needinfo".

What information is needed?
Comment 7 Robert Großkopf 2012-07-27 16:12:23 UTC
In a report there is no "First Page". You edit a page and fill it with fields of a table.
Example: Bills
There is a group with bill-number, adress and so on.
There are in detail all what the person has to pay for.
When I change the format all of the fist page with a content of the database will be repeted with the next group (next bill-number). So it could be you have landscape, protrait, protrait, landscape, landscape ...
The only possibility for a report of a database - and we must know, that it wouldnt be used for one group-value only - is, that the fist page is not for any content of the database. You could print such a page in the writer - why in the report?
So I need some informations about what should be written on the first page and how this should work with content of a database. Should it only be the header of the report?

Hi Ralph,

Please answer the questions.
Comment 9 Ralph Peters 2012-07-28 01:01:45 UTC
Hi,

I am out on vacation, so I haven't always had access to the internet.

Maybe it would be useful to explain my request, at least as well as I can
since the original request was over 6 months ago.

As the user designs a report one can choose landscape or portrait for the
entire report. IF, the user decides to change the orientation later, he
can change it for ONLY the first page. It would be nice and useful if one
could change the orientation of the ENTIRE report. Yes, I know one can
design a NEW report that is identical to the first one, EXCEPT for
orientation, but that is less convenient for the user than clicking an
*orientation
*button to changes from landscape to portrait or vice-versa.

This is not an important fix, like one that fixes a bug that causes a
software crash, but it would be useful to the user.

HTH,
Ralph

Comment 10 Robert Großkopf 2012-07-31 08:53:31 UTC
A possibility to get it with different page-formatting could be to change the report-builder, so tha he could allow subreports. The Pentahoo-Report-Builder allows such a subreport. There could be opened another report from one report.

At this moment the only possibility to show data from another data-content is to create a chart. All other data have to be in the same data-content. So the data-content is mostly a query, which shows data of more than one table. And after we had connected tables in a query, we group the queries so, that the content of one table is shown in a group-header and the other in detail.

Page-Setup of the report-builder

I could not find the displayed page-setup of the report-builder in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=55127&action=edit
There are possibilities shown, which could only be choosen in the modul "Writer", not in the Report-Builder. So I added a new attachment.
