I really can't understood. May be you can upload a screenshot on which is additionally drawn what you want to see? P.S. Please do not overquote.
No idea of what the problem is. If you still see the problem, please reopen this bug and provide: 1. Steps to reproduce 2. Current behavior 3. Expected behavior
i have LibreOffice 3.5.2.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:202); i can confirm unexpected behavior. tilde does not appear because it doesn't fit into formula object (i suppose). Try tilde %alpha and you won't see any tilde, then if you add %beta to the end, the size of the formula object would grow and alpha's tilde would be seen.
Ah, now I reproduced it: 1. Open a new document (text, drawing - doesn't matter) 2. menu: Insert -> Object -> Formula 3. input: tilde %alpha Problem: height of the math object is too small so that the tilde is truncated (invisible on the screen). Same problem with other greek symbols and other attributes ( hat, bar, check ... ) but some attributes work properly: overline, vec, dot ... maybe related to Bug 37386
Created attachment 61298 [details] screenshot of the problem
Problem still presents in Libreoffice 4.1.4.2 on Windows,
This would appear to be a duplicate of bug 37016.
From what I can see this was never confirmed by QA team - moving to UNCONFIRMED to get their confirmation.
I confirm this still happens, but I see no reason not to set as duplicate. Win 7 64-bit Version: 4.4.0.0.alpha2+ Build ID: b021b5983c62e266b82d9f0c5c6d8d8900553827 TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-11-12_01:10:08 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 37016 ***
