Description Toni Ballesta 2012-02-03 02:57:27 UTC
In my work, we have PC's with Windows 6.x (Vista SP2 & 7 SP1), all Home edition. Plus, I have one VM with XP SP3. Well, ALL Windows, the starting LO applications is extremely slow, in some cases, more than 20 SEC! (10 or less for XP). If I enable the "Boot with windows session", running the applications on the launcher icon on taskbar is very fast, less than one second, but though this is enabled and started, starting Writer for example from Start menu, the time is fatal.

Monitoring the processes, the speed launcher is in 2 PID: soffice.bin and soffice.exe. When starting Writer from here, for example, no changes apparently in the processes. To here is OK. But without disable or shutdown speed launcher, starting Writer from Start menu, the process create another instances of soffice.bin/.exe with all his time loading.

Thanks for bugreport
I tried now on Windows-comuter. 14 sec first start of Writer and 7 sec of second.
Try disable here:
Tools->Options, LibreOffice->Java, field "Use Java runtime environment"
and tell result

Ok, now I check for versions 3.6.6.2 and 4.0.3.3.

*Test on WINDOWS XP (Pro, without antivirus) i386*

V. 3.6.6.2: the static instances on memory has been patched. When fast icon is loaded (soffice.exe & soffice.bin) and I execute Writer from Start menu (not from fast icon), it seems loads 4 new instances: 2 soffice.exe, 1 swriter.exe and 1 soffice.bin, but when is executed (relatively fast), removes these new instances from memory.

V. 4.0.3.3: the start of applications is very similar to 3.6.6, and the problem of memory is similar too. The difference is that no load 3 instances when fast icon is in memory, load only 1 soffice.bin (removed when application is runned).

*Test on WINDOWS v6.x (7 Pro N without antivirus) amd64*

All versions has been improved in loading speed than the other versions. It is similar to XP, but only a little bit slow (problem of Windows, sure). The loading instances seems equal.

*Installation/Uninstallation*

The Windows v6.x is order of 4X SLOWER than XP, but I sure that this problem is by Windows.

-----------

IDEA: The problem of new instances, can resolve with executing a shell that load soffice of memory instead of binary, with the same icons? If quick icon is loaded on memory, it can execute very fast (like instantly). If not quick icon, then call to binary at normal speed.

-----------

Good work improving performance. I'm grateful.

Saludos.

I rectify, not only load soffice.bin on 4.0.3, load soffice.exe too.

If load writer before quick icon is loaded on Windows boot, probably they new static instance in memory: swriter.exe.

On Windows V5.1 and V6.x.

Not bad. Now, I don't use the fast icon, and it loads on 3 seconds, more or less, with LO 4.0.3.3 on Gentoo x64 and HDD conventional. Then, when I close it and re-open, it is late half second.

ok, since you don't have problems anymore I'm gonna change status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME.

moreover I have an old WinXP 32bit computer from 2006 and loading times with recent LibO version are acceptable.

All starts in windows 8.1 of LibreOffice 4.4.x are very slow. In LO4.3.X are a start ver fast.
In LO4.4.X if I start wirter or calc it is very fast, but not in LO4.4.x standard dialog box with last open documents and spredsheeds.
