Description Nicolas Mailhot 2012-02-08 07:28:24 UTC
Writer text zones currently do not permit setting the vertical alignment of the text they contain (top, bottom, middle). This should be changed so they behave like table cells

Thanks for bugreport
You mean "Text box" from "Draw" toolbar?
Comment 2 Nicolas Mailhot 2012-03-21 10:29:48 UTC
I mean all kinds of frames one can put text into in writer (I'm sorry I don't know the English name, I use a localized version). Right now it's only possible to control horizontal alignment
Comment 3 sasha.libreoffice 2012-03-21 21:59:43 UTC
Please, attach sample document where text should be aligned vertically
Comment 4 sasha.libreoffice 2012-12-13 11:15:29 UTC
It is Insert->Frame as I can see

Hi all,

this bug has been open waiting for a test document for over a year.

Nicolas: if this problem still exists in the latest LO release http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ feel free to attach a test document and re-open this bug.

Thanks :)

James,

All the necessary info has been given in this bug a long time ago, if the aim is to close bugs without looking at them please state it plainly

Thanks for attachment. Sorry, but example is incorrect. Ability of vertical aligning in attachment exist:
Right click on text in frame, select "Text" from context menu, on first tab place "Text anchor" in middle of frame.

We should use Insert->Frame for correct example.

LO 4.1 is a bit better and works in some cases, but it is still very quirky

The case that works is selecting part of the text and choosing align in the top menu. But doing the same in the context menu (right-click) does not work. Likewise if you select the text frame, and not text inside the frame, the alignment options are hidden. Changing alignment should apply to all the paragraphs inside the text frame when the frame is selected

The items in the context menu(s) have been carefully curated by the design team. We can't have a hundred items in there.

Changing the alignment while the frame is selected changes the alignment of the frame object. This is rather logical to keep the separation of the object and its contents.
