screen_shot for proces explorer info about soofice process

Problem description:
Sometimes application hangs on Copy+Paste action (from keyboard exactly on Ctrl+C or Shirt+Ins).
Source can text, cell, anything in the same document or other application - in other words from Clipboard.
Problem was observed in OpenOffice too and in all LibreOffice version (since I'd migrated).
Hangs the application in what I was working and all other instances of LibreOffice.
None from my colleagues has experienced the same problem.
Probably this is specific to hardware of software components installed on my PC.
Process explorer (from sysinternals) even do not see Calc application anymore (that in last case), but only soffice and swrite.exe (which is not visible in list of Ctrl+Tab not list it anymore, but Calc yes in list). see pictures attached.
Dumped soffice.bin, soffice.exe and swrite.exe - can upload if required.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Copy some content
2. Paste using keybord (may be from menu too, not sure) with Ctrl+V (and may be Shirt+Ins too, but not sure about it - do it automatically, use both ways time to time).
3. Not always, but just time to time, about once per week or too.

Current behavior:
Application hangs

Expected behavior:
Do paste as regular or got some error message explaining what is wrong.

Platform (if different from the browser):

OS: Windows 7 Pro - 64-bit, EN
Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad 410i,
RAM: 2 GB
CPU: Intel i3 Dual-Core.

Please, help to diagnose.
Comment 1 Andrey 2012-03-30 04:45:58 UTC
Any ideas? Upgraded to 3.5.1 - still having the same problem.
Comment 2 reubendowle0 2012-05-12 22:17:40 UTC
This also occurs for me. It seems to happen random times (I estimate it happens around once per 10 or 20 pastes), and I have experienced the behaviour in both writer and calc. It has been happening across multiple versions of LibreOffice - each time I upgrade I hope that the incredibly basic process of cut paste will be fixed, but no :(.

I see what looks like the same behavior as previously described by Anrey. The application becomes un-responsive (on ALL open libre office windows), with spinning circle. The pasted contents has always from within libre-office for me. I have left this for several minutes, but it does not recover - I have to use task manager to kill libre office.

I am running windows 7 home premium 64-bit SP1, EN. Ram is 4GB. CPU AMD 1090T 3.2GHz

Anything new? Currently we have not much more than "sometimes crashes", and more or less any software crashes from time to time.

Not NEW due to <https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugTriage#Set_Status_.26_Prioritize> and vague information
Comment 4 Andrey 2013-01-30 06:44:15 UTC
"more or less any software crashes from time to time" I do not think it is acceptable. In that case it crashed at the same action: Copy + Paste. So this look like bug or unexpected behavior at some environment state, which we do not know.

I did have the problem last 1-2 months, may be because not used too much Libre Office last few months, may be because of upgrade.

Anyway - it would be good to understand why problem can occur.
I will post update when I will have the issue again.
Comment 5 Andrey 2013-01-30 06:45:37 UTC
sorry, mistake in last post. right: "I did not have the problem last 1-2 months..."
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2013-03-20 17:55:39 UTC
@Andrey
With what version do you currently work (and do no longer observe the problem)?
Comment 7 Andrey 2013-03-21 08:12:18 UTC
update: I had problem again some minutes after last post.
At that time I was using the latest post.

Since that time had no problem any more. Now I have Version 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff). But this does not mean it will not occur again.

My question now: what and how to collect information LibreOffice team will require to diagnose the problem?
Comment 8 Andrey 2013-03-21 08:13:10 UTC
sorry, again: At that time I was using the latest version of that time.

@Andrey:
Please do not touch Status dropdown here.
Please contribute comprehensible information. Your short comments tell nothing.
And contribute precise information! "Some Content" is completely useless.

If you can contribute a useful complete instruction how to reproduce due to <http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport>
for LibO 3.6.5 or LibO 4.0.1 of course we will try to check that.

If not I will close this report.
Comment 10 Andrey 2013-03-21 09:03:57 UTC
"Some Content" - mean any text (formatted or not). I did not found that problem occur only with some special text or cell value.

I can not reproduce it by the will. It just happens.

If You can explain what exactly information You need and how to collect it at incident time - I will send it.
All I was able to collect - I had already attached to the issue.
Comment 11 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2013-03-21 10:42:12 UTC
(In reply to comment #10)
Of course I know what "Some Content" is. But be sure, if the problem depends on the contents I always will find and use the contents what does not cause the problem. Because of that it is important that you EXACTLY describe like select "Wikipedia page so and so all Paragraph below heading "xxx"" , click cell A7 with 'rightclick -> paste, ...". Without such detailed info the chance that someone else will be able to reproduce your problem is nearby 0.

And of course I see your problem to gain that info for such a sporadically appearing problem. It often is pot luck to remember the last few steps before the hang.
Comment 12 Andrey 2013-04-04 12:38:18 UTC
This happened for me again in Writer.
On Copy+Paste of text "OEL 4.8" in a table cell.
3-4 times paste was OK, but after next one LibreOffice hanged.
Comment 13 Matt Cavic 2013-06-19 14:21:12 UTC
This was happening to me in LO 3.x Calc on Windows XP 32-bit, and now on a new machine running LO 4.0.3.3 on Windows 7 Professional 64.

Cutting and pasting one cell or one row at a time often hangs the application upon paste.

@Andrey and Matt
please give us an update of the bug status with current LibO 4.2.5.2 release.
is the issue still reproducible?

do you think this is similar to Bug 73671?
Comment 15 Andrey 2014-07-01 10:09:05 UTC
Currently I am using 4.1.0.4 and problem is still here.
I am going to upgrade this week and will report in a month or as soon as I will face the problem again.
Comment 16 Liss77 2014-08-22 16:17:46 UTC
Hi. This same problem happens to me EVERY TIME I copy and/or paste.

Examples:

1. I am working on a Calc sheet, Ctrl+C on a cell containing just plain text --it freezes. I have to wait for about 2 minutes and then it unferezes. Then I can paste with no problem. If I copy with using the menu options EDIT>Copy, the result is the same.

2. On Mozilla Firefox, I open any website (ex. Wikipedia) and I copy plain text, then I go to a Calc sheet that had already been saved and used many times in the last days, I choose an empty cell and paste --it freezes. I wait and wait but it does not unfreeze by itself. The cursor moves but the sheet is inactive, I cannot close the Calc sheet. I have to restart the PC or force Calc to close via Task Manager.

If you need more details or further info, please do tell.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sorry, I forgot to say I am using version 4.2.5.2
Comment 18 Liss77 2014-08-22 16:20:06 UTC
Update: the exact same behavior in Writer with text and also with images.
I have never tried images in Calc.
Comment 19 ign_christian 2014-08-22 16:41:35 UTC
As Rainer has told, without exact reproducible steps it's quite hard for developer to make a fix.

Perhaps anyone mind to do debugging: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information
Comment 20 Andrey 2014-10-30 09:45:40 UTC
@tommy

Some months ago I had upgraded to Version: 4.2.5.2 (Build ID: 61cb170a04bb1f12e77c884eab9192be736ec5f5)

It was OK some months, bug it happened again. I had 2 cases last month.

about debugging: document in link says "Windows: How to get a backtrace

If you have LibreOffice 4.2.0 and higher installed, you have a development debug version, there is a test symbol server containing the corresponding debugging symbols. Read How to get a backtrace with WinDbg to set the debugging environment and you can also watch this video to help understand the process."

It looks like this is for LO developers, not a regular user like me.

Once again: What information do you need I how can I collect it when problem will happen again? I Have Win7 Pro 64 bit.

I had not found any pattern that can reproduce the problem.
It can happen even with text already pasted before.

It is for regular users, who want to give more information to developers. The wiki page might seem scary at first glance, but the steps are very straightforward, please try them: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg

This, or 78429, are the most annoying bugs for me in LO. Both Writer and Calc hang on Copy+Paste, but only sometimes, which makes this bug very hard to trace.
I never succeeded to reproduce it again, once it happened, in order to get a backtrace. I'm on 4.3.7 now and it still happens to me. Today it happened in 4.4.4 while I tested another bug.
The only solution I can think of is to have some automatic procedure of starting debugging with WinDBG (in Windows) each time I start LO, but I don't know how to make it.
Comment 25 Andrey 2015-06-16 19:27:09 UTC
Totally agree with Timur. This bug live for ages.
It was there when I had reported it and am using 4.2.5.2 version and it is still there. Most probably it is related is some way with Windows 64-bit version (I am using Win 7 Pro), but this is just feeling (I had not such problem on WinXP).
Problem is not reproducible by the will.

The only workaround is to enable autosave for documents for 5-10 min to minimize amount of work after LO hang.

By the way, if my memory is not wrong, there problem also happened with OpenOffice too (before I had migrated to LO).
Comment 26 tommy27 2015-06-16 20:23:14 UTC
I've never saw that bug using LibO on WinXP 32bit, Win7 64bit and Win 8.1 64bit systems, but I always use the portable X-LibreOffice version ( http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.1354 )

give it a try and tell if you still see the issue on the portable version as well

Well, I found out and wrote: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg#Automation

Eike closed it as INSUFFICIENTDATA, OK.

I have this? bug rather often, I'm now on 5.1.6 32-bit Windows.

I've just had it with procdump on and there was no dump. So, I don't know how to find the cause, other than hope it's solved in some other bug.

I used to have this nasty problem too, but it seems disappeared on Version 5.2.3.3 (x64) I am using now.
