Description ljelly 2012-02-24 15:38:32 UTC
the bug is when importing pptx files into libreoffice the power point slides show click to edit master text styles, first level third level and second level text. i'm not the only person who has decided that this was a problem from a class mates presentation...

Can LibreOffice please fix this bug!!!!! It's really important I have received power point slides for Ancient History from my teacher and they are 40mb! plus!!! i can't convert all of the pptx files as it takes to long with online converters and saving them in microsoft office 2010 on windows as odp is a complete disaster...

I am using an unstable development version of libreoffice 3.6 LOdev 3.6.0alpha0+ e9d045f-f8506ca-8a74106-f0d66f on a mac and I even have libreoffice 3.5 on ubuntu. it is really important that it gets fixed because everything else in the pptx file works really except this annoying bug!!!! these powerpoints have more than 40 slides!!!!! can some help ressolve this issue???? instead of deleting the text one by one on all the slides... i tried saving these on mac office 2011, as a ppt file and it just crashed!!!1? If a fix is released in a daily version unstable release of libreoffice on one of the mirrors even if its windows mac or linux.. i can access that version and save those slides as an odp so that it works really well with libreoffice 3.5.. on my ubuntu desktop as an odp file....

work around... deleted the bug and problem by deleting everything in master view in microsoft 2011 on mac.. I think the problem is when someone opens a presentation as ppt file say for microsoft 2003, and then they save it as microsoft 2010 format .pptx it then gets all jumbled up with libreoffice.... there should be an option (one button click) to delete all styles and charts and graphics and tittle and footer boxes in master view on libreoffice as well.. (delete the whole master slide!) so its a blank power point canvas in master view. just by deleting all the slides and ending up with the last one as a blank white canvas. ( I don't think you can do that in libreoffice for ALL the slides like you can in microsoft office. (even microsoft office can't do that very well what I just described :) more information:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/734726
http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/439/impress-bug-importing-pptx-files-with-master

But I found another work around also. In office 2011 for Mac if you select all of your slides by clicking on a slide and then using the keyboard shortcut (command a)that will select all the slides. If you click layout under the home button ribbon. And select blank. It changes the master slide layouts. That is what worked for me. Then you can open it as a pptx file in impress. Something isn't working to well with layouts in Libreoffice I suspect.

I encountered this on Fedora 16 today. Fix and/or help much appreciated.

I see that sample document on launchpad looks different in MS PPT VIEWER and LibO, but today I am too lazy to read all that novel to find out what the problem might be. I'll put this bug into the line.

@reporter:
Thank you for your report – unfortunately important information is missing. You can speed up fixing process by contributing a usable bug report.
May be hints on <http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport> will help you to find out what information will be useful to reproduce your problem? If you believe that that is really sophisticated please as for Help on a user mailing list
Please:
- Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
- Attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or refer to an existing
sample document in an other Bug with a link.
- Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem (due to example in Bug 43431)
– if possible contribute an instruction how to create a sample document
  from the scratch
- add information
  -- what EXACTLY is unexpected
-- and WHY do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
-- concerning your PC (video card, ...)
-- concerning your OS (Version, Distribution, Language)
-- concerning your LibO version (with Build ID if it's not a public release)
and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
    (video hardware acceleration ...)
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read linked texts

Even if you can not provide all demanded information, every little new information might bring the breakthrough.

May be you can test <https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/> for submitting bug reports?

Please report Bugs with initial status UNCONFIRMED.

REFERS TO ATTACHMENTS AS WELL.
this is a cross post from bug 46594
i have tested this problem in other os's but at the moment it is happening in
Windows 8 Consumer Preview 64 bit... libreoffice works very well even in
windows 8.

LibreOffice version 3.6.0alpha0+ x86 fast (Build ID: 7f3f6e4)
9/5/12 8:30pm AEST Build that was time of download
Last Modified 09-May-2012 2:28

great to see a fix is happening, cannot believe it really...
Problem is still happening on some slides but not all.
such as the 1st slide of my presentation does not have this problem or the 7th
slide which is attached, but then the second slide does (attached).

it is now only on slides 2,9,18 out of 30 slides in this presentation.

and it still occurs on some other presentations which are .pptx that I have but
not on all the slides.

i can upload other pptx files if needed, as they do not get any larger than this.

could you please reply if they are needed as well.
there are about 13 pptx files that have this problem.

old bug reopened from bug 35372 as it has a similar problem.

the powerpoint files that are created in microsoft office 2003 as a ppt file format, which are then converted to pptx format in office 2010 are showing the master slides symptom of showing master slide text on the slides (refer to attachments) and link posted to ubuntu one. I cannot confirm if this is the case as I do not have microsoft office 2003, It does not occur on all slides only on some of them. but this does not occur when i open a pptx file that was created in office 2010. I can clarify that if a pptx file was created in office 2010 this problem does not occur.
It does not occur on all slides only on some of them.

[Reproducible] with parallel installation of Master "LOdev 3.6.0alpha0+ – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) ENGLISH UI [Build ID: 7f3f6e4]" (tinderbox: Win-x86@6-fast, pull time 2012-05-08 21:43:52). Steps how to reproduce:

0. Download sample document from <http://ubuntuone.com/6QKc2hbgMeVoeW5EvfRebj>
1. Start LibO from WIN programs start center
2. Open sample document from LibO File Dialog
3. <f5> Start slide show
  > SLIDESHOW starts
4. <Space> to reach Slide 2
   > Silde 2 shown
Expected: picture of temple + Text "Pompeian Capitoline Temple ..."
Actual: additional "Click to edit Master text styles ..." (also visible in
           Edit mode)
Document seems to be more or less ok, "Click to edit Master text styles ..." not shown in MS PPT Viewer. Nevertheless problem might be related to document history (Comment 7), the strange texts have become part of the temple picture.

OOo 3.3 and 3.4-dev (old) did not show the problem (so very old regression), already reproducible with LibO 3.3.3

Seems that Muthu's commit <http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=90352e5f1e50291960c944f9a1f44ab3e91d6503> fixed a part of the problem (Bug 35372), but another part rested? LibO 3.5.3 shows the same problem in sample document Slide 3 ("Temple of Asclepius/Jupiter Meilichius"), what is no longer a problem with a.m. Master build.

@ljelly:
I can't understand what can be so difficult to write these very simple facts in
It would be great if you could try to contribute short, precise information instead of a bad novel with lots of exclamation marks. Having to read all that only prevents us from bug fixing.

I'm sorry for the very long descriptions, i have since improved with simpler explanations then from my original post.
I will try to keep it short and concise if I find any other bugs which need reporting in libreoffice.
it is great to see that my bug is being worked on.

@Rainer: Sorry for troubling you...I have one query: If I understand you right, is this problem fixed in master, please? If so, is this request only for the cherry-pick to 3.5?

Thank you!
Comment 15 Korrawit Pruegsanusak 2012-05-11 08:55:10 UTC
(In reply to comment #14)
> is this problem fixed in master, please?

Short answer: partially.

Long answer: It's fixed partially, but some slides still have the "Master text".
* In 3.5.3.1 official, almost all pictures have the text. (not expected)
* In the daily build detailed in comment 7, only 3 slides affected -- slide number 2, 10, and 19.
So, your fix improved situation (thanks!), but it still has some cases to tackle.

> If so, is this request only for the cherry-pick to 3.5?

Not quite, but cherry-picking is much appreciated of course :)

Hi, as Korrawit says:
Your commit fixes all problems visible in sample document for Bug 35372.
Here we have a sample document where still after the fix in some slides the problem is visible (while for some of the slides in the document the fix works). It would be great if you could check what additional problems hire cause problems in <http://ubuntuone.com/6QKc2hbgMeVoeW5EvfRebj>.

And of course, a backport to 3.5 would be great, but I can't rate the risks
Comment 17 Scot Wilcoxon 2013-01-21 22:12:54 UTC
Problem still seems to be present in LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 (Ubuntu). I don't have a non-proprietary example, and the earlier file in UbuntuOne is now missing, so I can't test with that. All I know is that I keep seeing "Click to edit Master text styles" splattered across various imported PPTX files.
Comment 18 ljelly 2013-03-23 00:06:13 UTC
Fixed in Future Versions of LibreOffice

3.6.5 and 4.0+

Comment 19 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2016-05-16 17:14:13 UTC
Set version to 3.3.3 and keyword regression as indicated in comment #11.
