Blank Pleading Document

A legal pleading document (.odt, .doc .docx) will load in correctly, but when again saved after editing as a (.doc or .docx) file, it strips the line numbering off the left hand side. Files have to be saved as a (.doc or .docx) file for compatibility with attorney(s) word processor(s). I have included a blank pleading in .odt format. Also after the save, you cannot access the header or footer on the document again.

doc test file, saved using msWord 2007

For creating this file, I opened first attachment, moved frame on left of page (with numbers) from header to page itself using Writer, then saved to DOC. Then in msWord moved this frame again to header and saved.

Thanks for bugreport.
Reproduced in 3.3.4 and 3.5.4 on Fedora 64 bit (Windows not tested).
It is FILESAVE problem. When document contains frame, anchored to header, this frame is thrown away when saving to DOC format.

What is interesting: when open second attachment by Writer 3.5.4, edit and save again to DOC format, it saves correctly.

msWord 2007 opens first attachment (odt) without frame on left of page

Format docx not tested, because functionality to save to it is experimental now. Not expected that it will work correctly now.

Changing version to 3.3.4 as most early reproduced

The exported docx works fine in Word 2013, but in doc format the text box is still saved as invalid object (Word warns about that).

1. Open attachment 58587 [details]
2. Edit Frame 3, change Anchor "To Page" (instead of "To Character")
3. Save as .doc / reload

Actual (and expected) result: the line numbering still appears (i.e., Frame 3 is no longer lost).

The problem in the present case is that Frame 3 (the line numbering) was anchored to Frame 2. As noted in comment 10 here, this is all right for .docx.

This bug may be a variation on bug #67318 -- where the issue there was problems for .doc to handle shapes/frames that are anchored to a frame. The problem here seems to be a problem with anchoring a frame to a character in a frame.

Tested with: LO 6.3.4.2

Dear Daniel Lee Eschbach,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
