So Nikos Platis writes at:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47857#c3

[snip]
Unfortunately, this was not the case for me: On Arch Linux x86_64 with
libreoffice-kde4 package installed, when I type a filename with .doc extension
the file type changes to "Microsoft Word 6.0 (.doc)".
[snip]

That looks like a potentially horrific interoperability problem for KDE users.

Lubos - a nasty KDE related rumour - any chance you can verify ?
Comment 2 Nikos Platis 2012-03-30 00:25:17 UTC
...And on my system, the same happens for Calc: it selects Excel 5.0 format for .xls files.

Confirmed, a mistake in my previous patch fixing a bug. Affects only kdelibs-4.8+. Fixed upstream (KDE): https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdelibs/repository/revisions/9a577b26585ff12aedc4098130925453f125c243
