Description Joseph Alexander Sochet, Esquire 2012-05-08 08:44:26 UTC
Notes for slides are not viewable when using pptx files.
Open pptx file with notes.
Go to notes view
no notes are there

Could you attach example presentation to allow others to check on different system/build?

Just wanted to add that I have regular PPT files where this does work correctly. These are all lecture documents from medical school. The uploaded pptx file is for reference purposes.

Checked with:
LOdev 3.5.3rc1+
Build ID: 51648779-22e3d74-d554af7
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

I can't load the attached file in Impress. General error, input/output error.
File works fine in Powerpoint 2010.

Huh, I just opened it
LibreOffice 3.5.3.2
Build ID: 235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80
Windows 7 Pro SP1 32bit

Impress really doesn't like this professor's PowerPointX files at all, if you do get it open, it does that really ugly dithering thing on the whole page. I have 2 other ones from this same professor (all over 3000kb though)

Okay,
So I tested the same file in 3.5.3.2 under Kubuntu 12.04
The notes and slide seem to be up and to the left of the page. One had to scroll over.
I will add the attachment screen shots.
I tested the same file and same page under windows again, and there were some notes.
Now the page I tested is better than others. Many of the other pages didn't always have the notes easily available either.
I will also attach the screen shot of this.

Silly workaround:
Select all slides while under the note tab, apply the default layout.
Works for slides without a lot of notes.
Suggested possible UI enhancement idea, add a Notes panel for note taking, like in PowerPoint, in the Normal View.

Confirmed with:
LO 3.6.3.1
Build ID: f8fce0b
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

Notes in upper-left corner with dithering overlay.

NEW as bug reproduced.

[Reproducible] with reporter's sample slide 2 and Server Installation of "LibreOffice 3.4.5 German UI [Build ID: OOO340m1 (Build:502)]" parallel Server installation on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)

Steps how to reproduce:
1. Open newsample.pptx
2. Switch view to "Notes" tab, if necessary
Sliede 1 will look as expected, top half of the white "sheet" shows the slide
contents, bottom half shows the place holder for a note
Slide 2 shows an empty white "sheet", you have to reduce zoom factor (to 10%)
to see slide contents and note (?) outside white sheet area left from and
above sheet area. You can move the sheet contents and will see that there
   is a note.

LibO 3.4.1 rc1 does not show any contents in Notes view for slides with note
LibO 3.3.3 crashes when I try to reproduce.

I can't reproduce the problem with simple self created .pptx saved from LibO.
How can we be sure that it's not a problem with the document?
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-11-16 07:14:42 UTC
Works for me with parallel installation of Master "LOdev 4.0.0.0.alpha0+ - ENGLISH UI / German Locale [Build ID: a2b3ee)]" {tinderbox: @6, pull time 2012-11-13 06:07:28} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) with separate /4 User Profile for Master Branch.

I doubt that the fix can be backported to 3.6, please feel free to reopen this bug if you inf evidence that a backport will be possible.

@Radek:
What do you think?
