Created attachment 62728 [details] Test PDF File Problem description: When importing PDF files into Draw image files should be displayed but are not, only text is shown. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create PDF in Writer with text and image. 2. Open the file in Draw with pdfimport extension installed. 3. The file contains text but no image files. Current behavior: Images are not displayed. Expected behavior: Images should be shown along with text. Platform (if different from the browser): Ubuntu 12.04 Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/536.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/19.0.1084.46 Safari/536.5
I do not reproduce with LO 3.5.4.2 (Version ID : 165a79a-7059095-e13bb37-fef39a4-9503d18) under Ubuntu 11.10 x86_64 with gnome-shell. Best regards. JBF
I can confirm this bug under Ubuntu 12.04(LO 3.5.4) and Gentoo linux(LO 3.5.6) pdfimport extension can't import images properly.
From the Launchpad bug listing, it seems the older Oracle PDFImport extension works correctly, which would indicate a regression. I will be testing this and reporting back.
Quote from Lauchpad comment on bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1009663/comments/11): "You can fix this by downloading the pdf-import from openoffice ( http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/pdfimport ). I just replaced the files in /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/pdfimport/ with this from openoffice and had the images back." I have confirmed this does fix the problem (for Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit with LO version 3.5.4.2). The modify date on the OO version of the PDFImport Extension is 2012-10-14. So, this must be a regression?? In the test document I was working with, using the LO PDFImport only imports the first 18 pages of the document. No error is given, just doesn't import the rest. Using the OO PDFImport, ALL pages are imported, AND all images show correctly. I will attach this larger pdf. First image is on page 19 (simple exclamation icon that actually DOES NOT show correctly with the OO version of PDFImport, but I am overlooking that for now) or page 20 for a "more substantial image", so it appears that the LO version of PDFImport is somehow hanging when it gets to an image (??).
Created attachment 73325 [details] PDF that only imports first 18 pages under LO Extension (no images in those pages), all works well under OO Extension
To clarify, the openoffice PDFImport extension (manually downloaded version: 1.0.4) can be installed directly through the Extension Manager (no need to first install the LibreOffice PDFImport and then manually replace the files in /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/pdfimport).
You should try with the generic Linux version from LibreOffice web site. I guess that the problem is only in your distribution flavors of LibreOffice. Best regards. JBF
I just tested it in LibreOffice 4.0 and both documents import fine, with images and no pages are lost.
I hate to be a bummer here but I just installed LibreOffice 4.1.1 from the ppa and I still have this issue. My understanding is that the extension is no longer used and this capability is included by default. At this point I have restalled my system several times since the bug was reported, currently I am running ElementaryOS Luna based on Ubuntu 12.04.

Please, could you try with the generic Linux version provided by TDF, in order to decide if the problem is in LibreOffice, in the ppa version or due to a problem in your OS installation? From my side, LO 4.0.2.0+ opens both attachments fine under Ubuntu 12.04. Best regards. JBF
You are correct, LO 4.0.1.2 downloaded directly from TDF website works as expected. Should I post this error on launchpad so that the ppa version can be corrected? Obviously something they have been doing since LO 3.5 is wrong.

Obviously something they have been doing since LO 3.5 is wrong. Yes, according to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport#Reporting_Ubuntu_bugs But there is already a bug report on launchpad for this problem (fields "See also", top right of this page), you should add a comment there. Best regards. JBF
I forgot about the Launchpad bug, that is where I started all this. I will follow up there to try getting the Ubuntu specific version fixed. Thanks for your help.
