When you make the last paragraph of your text a multicol one, it's not easy to add another 'normal' paragraph after that. You can use alt+enter but it's hard to discover and, what's more, it's not consistent with tables behaviour : when you add a table at the end of your document, it auto adds a paragraph after it.
So, for making LibreOffice more easily usable and to even its behaviour, I think it would be an interesting enhancement to auto add a paragraph after a multi-column one, if its the last.
Please note this is *not* a duplicate of this bug : https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53059
I agree that it is not easy to find the "alt+enter" tips (I found it to thanks to this bug :-)).
But to impose a paragraph after a two-columns section is not good if you want to end your document with this two-columns section : you will loose a line.
Can you please provide a test document so this can be tested against and subsequently be confirmed.
also please provide a simple step-by-step description of how to reproduce the problem.
Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.
After providing the requested info, please reset this bug to UNCONFIRMED. Thanks :)
Forogt: Please first check if this bug is still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release? Currently 188.8.131.52: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
Could you please attach the document in question? That would help speed up the process of confirming and successively fixing this bug a lot. Thanks :)
Should this be still reproducible for you with the latest LO release please re-open this bug and we’ll go from there.

Yes, the bug is still there, even in the 4.2.4 version. I provided two test documents : just try to make the first one look like the second one… to do so, you will HAVE TO press alt+enter, which is very hard to discover.
ALT+ENTER is the provided and expected method of breaking out of a section (columns) or table. The main point made in this report is the low discoverability of the ALT+ENTER functionality. I think at the very least the summary needs clarifying as to exactly what enhancement is being requested. Perhaps what is envisaged is some sort of hover-on-section-bottom pop-up menu? Auto-adding a paragraph after a section or table is not an appropriate solution.

Does it mean I should open a new bug because LibreOffice *does* automatically add a line after a table if the cursor is on the last line of the document ? Or that I should interpret LO behaviour with tables as an *insertion* of the table before the active paragraph ?
Anyway, the behaviour of LO is not consistent between tables and columns in spite of what you wrote.
In the bug description, would it be right if I request that Format > Columns *inserts* a multi-col paragraph instead of transforming the active paragraph into a multicol one ? This way, LO behaviour would be consistent between tables and columns, the discoverability issue would be gone and there would not be any auto added content.

Oh sorry, I see what you mean now, and now I see why you are referring to "auto-insertion" of a paragraph.
a) Table > Insert > Table = object placed PRIOR to cursor paragraph.
b) Insert > Section = section placed PRIOR to cursor paragraph.
c) Format > Columns = section/columns placed IN the cursor paragraph.
This is an enhancement to get (c) to behave in a manner the same as (a) and (b). Seems reasonable - apologies for misunderstanding. Summary edited to clarify consistency in behaviour. Status set to NEW.
Don't be sorry, my bug description was not very clear. What's more, I realize I've been a bit rude in my last answer. So I'm sorry too. ;) Thank you very much for the rephrasing of both the summary and the need.
