A screen shot of the crash.

I just downloaded and installed onto my old Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine with http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.6.0/win/x86/LibO_3.6.0_Win_x86_install_multi.msi ... Its Help About crashes with "Due to an unexpected error, LibreOffice crashed. All the files you were working on will be saved. The next time LibreOffice is launched, your file will be recovered automatically..." like in swriter.exe. Herer's a crash dump from WinDbg:

Renamed soffice.bin to soffice_bin.exe complained about missing sal3.dll file (had this problem with v3.5.4 too).
Comment 1 Ant 2012-08-09 13:29:47 UTC
FYI, Apache OpenOffice v3.4.0 does not have this problem.

Checked with:
LO 3.6.0.4
Build ID: 932b512
Windows XP Professional SP3

Could not reproduce.
Can you please try to do clean install of LibreOffice with a brand new LO user profile (see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)? Also important details of your system configuration are still missing. In case of another crashes please attach as a file !analyze -v output from WinDbg.

NOT reproducible with Server Installation of "LibreOffice 3.6.0.4 German UI/Locale [Build-ID: 932b512] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit):

1. Launch LibO
2. in LibO Start Center: menu 'Help -> About LibreOffice'
   > Info dialog appears, no crash.

http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt for my detailed Windows' computer specifications. Note that my Windows is pretty old (almost a decade?) so it could be something weird on my old OS. I believe I did delete my LO profile from my Windows XP account, but I will check again and try your !analyze -v. I assume to use it after the crash is reproduced.

FYI, Apache OpenOffice v3.4.0 had no problems though!
Comment 7 Ant 2012-08-10 14:48:49 UTC
I had this known startup crash as shown in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52976 with it making a new LO directory/folder.

Anyways, I got in and retried its swriter.exe with WinDbg:

Unfortunately you have no useful output.
Best would be to have own debug build or download one (master sources) from http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/W2008R2@20-With-Symbol-Bytemark-Hosting/master/.
Please follow this article where you will find example !analyze -v output:

@Ant:
Bug 38913 brought a lot o fixes around msvcr90.dll, may be you are lucky and your problem disappears with 3.6.2?

It still crashes in v3.6.2. Is there a portable non-installer debug version? Or do I really have to uninstall and install it? :(

You can install in parallel - see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel#Version_3.5.x_and_newer:
Comment 12 Julien Nabet 2013-01-12 18:51:24 UTC
No Feedback since months, so put it WFM

Ant:
Try raw method:
- uninstall LO
- clean Windows registry with a free tool (like ccleaner)
- rename your LO directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)
- install non portable version for the test (3.6.4 is last one)
If you reproduce the problem after all this, don't hesitate to reopen this tracker.
