Description Hakan Lidstrom 2012-08-19 15:41:08 UTC
I was using the Help dialog while in Writer.
On the find tab, when clicking the Find button I get a message that Libreoffice requires a runtime environment and that the selected JRE is defective.
The selected JRE is 1.7.0_05 (32-bit version) This is the version currently recommended by Sun/Oracle.
I install JRE 6 (1.6.0)33, 32-bit) and select it in Tools / Options / Libreoffice / Java. Now Find works fine again.
Has this been fixed in Libreoffice 3.6? That is, does Libreoffice 3.6 work with JRE 7 (1.7)?
Comment 1 Julien Nabet 2013-01-02 13:11:14 UTC
There have been some bugs between LO and jre 1.7.
Could you give a try to last LO version (3.6.4.3)? (make sure you have last update of jre 1.7)
Perhaps you'll have to rename your LO profile. (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)
Comment 2 Hakan Lidstrom 2013-01-26 15:17:32 UTC
I downloaded and installed LO 3.6.4 today. i.e., Version 3.6.4.3 (Build
ID: 2ef5aff)
Help works. I cannot replicate the issue I reported for LO 3.5 in August
2012.

I have completely removed all Java packages I had on my system, i.e.,
Java 6 (32-bit), Java 6 (64-bit), Java 7 (64-bit) and Java FX. I have
rebooted and Help still works.

My conclusion is that the dependency on JRE has been eliminated from LO
Help, and if that does not make sense to you it must be that Windows is
giving me false information. What I do know is that there are no Java
packages listed in Programs and Features and that the "do I have Java"
test on the Java site reports that Java cannot be found.

I am satisfied with the the LO 3.6 solution. Thank you for responding!

You must know that some LibreOffice parts won't work without Java:
Base and most of wizards for example.

It could be interesting you install the last Java version and give it a try.

Rainer: any idea what should be the status of this bugtracker?
The reporter doesn't reproduce the problem but since he uninstalled every Java version it doesn't mean it's ok.

For me also Help works fine with "LibO 4.0.0.2 rc - GERMAN UI / German Locale [Build ID: 5991f37846fc3763493029c4958b57282c2597e)]" {tinderbox: @6, pull time 2013-01-24 07:20(?)} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) with User Profile automatically created form renamed /3 User profile used by 3.6.5.2

So I agree, we should make this one WFM.

But be aware of surprises, strange JRE requirement messages and similar currently come and go, may be later news will indicate that the problem still exists.
