Description leighman 2012-09-10 17:14:57 UTC
Open word count dialog
Activate fullscreen
Deactivate fullscreen

Counts are lost

This does not seem to happen with any other dialogs.

Using 3.6.1 on Ubuntu quantal

Can reproduce on master, 4.0 alpha1+, 64-bit Linux.

This (seemingly) happens because the Word Count window can be shared between multiple Writer windows. The word count window always counts for the last activated Writer window or the window that called it. Now, when Writer comes out of full-screen, the Word Count window somehow gains focus and loses its "attachment" to the Writer window.
Clicking on the Writer window again then lets gives the right word count again.

So, the bug actually seems to be that the window is not focused any more after it comes out of full-screen mode.

This bug doesn't exist in LO 5.2.0.0 beta2, Linux version.

Still zeroing for me.

Did you really use the Ctrl-Shift-J fullscreen functionality?

Counts are lost in the word count dialog as focus wasnt restored back to the document after returning from fullscreen mode, but once the document regains focus, the counts return.

This should be something simple to fix, but definitely of least importance with the simple workaround of clicking the document.

Still present. In 3.3/3.4, the word count dialog was modal, so you couldnt go into fullscreen mode while it was open.

Maxim, Heiko, Stuart: Should a non-modal dialog get focus when exiting full screen mode or should the document? Should non-modal dialogs get closed when entering full screen mode?

This question is too generic. In most situations it makes no sense to switch the focus from document to any other dialog. And I don't see a use case to focus the word count- nor to make it a non-modal window at all.

In general, non-modal dialogs shouldn't get touched by the program, so to close when switching to full-screen mode is bad.

Sounds good. So we keep focus on document, as it was in focus when in full screen mode.

Dear leighman,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
