Short file that fails

docx file created in Writer cannot be opened in Windows Word 2007 or 2010. Fails with 'The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents'.
Comment 1 bfoman (inactive) 2013-03-15 14:09:19 UTC
Confirmed with:
LO 4.0.1.2
Build ID: own W7 debug build
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

Opens perfectly in Writer, cannot be opened in Word 2010.
Comment 2 retired 2013-12-13 11:18:26 UTC
Confirmed with OSX 10.9 and Word 2011. But I think this looks like NOTOURBUG.

Adding NeedAdvice for some dev input on how to proceed with this bug.

Word2013 error message

Word2013 on Win7 gives following error message: "Leider kann "This breaks it2.docx" nicht geöffnet werden, da der Inhalt Probleme verursacht.

<translation>
This document foo.docx sadly cannot be open, because the content causes problems.

Details:
unknown error
Position: Module: /word/document.xml, line: 2, column: 0
</translation>
Comment 4 Alexandre Demers 2014-01-30 16:44:47 UTC
I've created a docx from an odt with latest LO4.2 and I can't open it with Word 2013. MS Word just keeps trying opening it in an endless loop.

To Foss: I don't see how this would be NOTOURBUG since it's LO producing a docx that doesn't correspond to MS expected format.

I'll be attaching both the original file (odt) and the generated docx in a moment.

Original odt

odt created with LO 4.2. It contains pictures, captions and page breaks.

generated problematic docx file

Generated using LO 4.2 from the original odt file. MS Word 2013 can't open it, it keeps looping endlessly trying to open it.

Foss -- what makes you think that it's not our bug?

(Even if the content we write should be valid according to the spec, I'm not sure if we can easily push this bug report over to Microsoft's Office team, unfortunately)

Looks fixed to me, tested using Version: 4.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: a82ff18269e5b37348d402b7c21c3f200068265c
TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-07-20_02:34:36

Word 2013 can open the exported .docx file correctly. Only some caption formatting issues (caption is at top of the image instead of at the bottom).
This should be reported in a new bug report (will do in a minute).

I'll attach the exported .docx file using mentioned LibreOffice version.

Marking as RESOLVED WORKSFORME due the fact we don't know exactly which commit fixed this issue.

Kind regards,
Joren

May work in 2013, but still does not work in 2007 or 2010 - which is what the original but reported. Please re-open.
Comment 11 Xisco Faulí 2015-08-25 13:29:17 UTC
I can no longer reproduce this issue with

Version: 5.0.0.5
Build ID: 1b1a90865e348b492231e1c451437d7a15bb262b
Locale: es-ES (es_ES)

and Office Word 2010

on Windows 7 (64-bit)

Thus, I close this as RESOLVED WORKSFORME
