Description David 2012-10-05 23:14:59 UTC
1. How to change new Comment Box Default Font & Font Size. ie. Font too small.

2. How to change and save Comment Box location on sheet. ie. Box does not stay in new location after being moved.
Comment 1 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-10-06 07:09:51 UTC
No idea what th problem might be, quick test with parallel installation of Master "LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+ - ENGLISH UI / German Locale [Build ID: c7e559]" {tinderbox: @16, pull time 2012-10-03 05:46:26} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) did not show anything abnormal in Calc comments.

@reporter:
Thank you for your report – unfortunately important information is missing.
May be hints on <http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport> will help you to find out what information will be useful to reproduce your problem? If you believe that that is really sophisticated please as for Help on a user mailing list
Please:
- Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
- Attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or refer to an existing
sample document in an other Bug with a link; to attach a file to this
bug report, just click on "Add an attachment" right on this page.
- Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a document related step by step instruction containing every
key press and every mouse click how to reproduce your problem
(similar to example in Bug 43431)
– if possible contribute an instruction how to create a sample document
  from the scratch
- add information
-- what EXACTLY is unexpected (not "Too Small", but "font size seems to
      be only 2pt"!)
-- and WHY do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
-- concerning your PC (video card, ...)
-- concerning your OS (Version, Distribution, Language)
-- concerning your LibO localization (UI language, Locale setting)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
    (video hardware acceleration ...)
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
–- Whether your problem persists when you renamed your user profile
before you launch LibO (please see
     <https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#User_profile_location>)
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read linked texts
Comment 2 David 2012-10-06 16:14:04 UTC
Hello,

I didn't know that you needed that much information, so I'll try to be more
clear.

The trouble that I am having is:

   1. When I add a new Comment Box to any cell in Calc, the new Comment box
is already pre-formatted for a Default font that is so small that I can
barely grab it with the mouse to change it to a larger font that I can see.
And if it matters, the sheet size is reduced to 60%, so I can fit more
cells on the screen. Once I can highlight the font in the Comment Box, then
I have no problem to change it, but I have to do this action with every new
Comment Box. I want to be able to change the Default Fault within the
Comment Box to something that I like and I don't know how to do this so
that the Font in the next New Comment Box will not need to be changed.
   2. When I add a New Comment Box and type in the Comments, I highlight
the outside edges of the Comment box and move the Box to a different
location on the spreadsheet, the Comment Box does not stay in the New
Location that I had just moved it to. When the Comment Box is released from
the mouse and I select a different Cell on the sheet, the Box that I had
just moved has now reverted to it's original location. I want to be able to
move a Comment Box and have it stay in the new location that I choose.
Also, it might be important that when I finish editing the Comment Boxes, I
usually hide the Comment and use the mouse-over to reveal the contents.

I hope that this is better information for you, but if you still need more,
then please let me know and I will try to provide.

Thanx in advance for your help.

David

Questions were answered, so status back to UNCONFIRMED for now. (This is better to catch the eyes of our bug wranglers ;-)

<http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport#General_information> item 4
So I will reduce subject of this bug here to the font size problem.

@Roman:
Please do not do such changes without any further action the bug. Here are some uncommented attachments, nobody knows for what they might be, and some 30 text lines reporter tells some stories about his life and some trouble he has with LibO without any new information; no idea whether there might be a bug or only user errors. No answer at all!

@David:
Currently the font size and font in Calc comments seems to be the one defined in Paragraph style "Default".

Can we summarize your problem with: "Need separate paragraph style for Comments"?

There are workarounds how to change all comments with few clicks like
<http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36465>
and
<http://openoffice.2283327.n4.nabble.com/api-dev-Changing-font-and-font-size-of-comments-in-Calc-td3165489.html>. I did not check them, but I think such a workaround is not optimum

We know how comments look and what small fonts are, this sample document tells nothing
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-10-18 15:01:48 UTC
I decided to hijack this Bug for my assumption in Comment 7

Currently lots of chin-ups are required if a user needs different font size, font type or whatever else in his comments. This would become more easy if LibO would have an own style for Comments to define Comment style

But what I read in AOOo issue is not very promising.

Sorry!
Comment 14 Roman Eisele 2012-10-18 16:10:55 UTC
... and because I was so sorry, I hit RETURN to early; I wanted to explain:

Changing Status to NEW, because Rainer’s re-formulation of this bug in the Summary and in comment #12 is a valid and very reasonable enhancement request.

I hope this action was OK ;-)
Comment 15 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-10-18 16:14:55 UTC
I submitted "Bug 56153 - Hidden Comment box appears at default place and not at place to where moved with active 'Show Comment'" for the "unexpected appearance" problem.
Comment 16 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-10-18 16:23:21 UTC
Hi Regina, seems you have some knowledge concerning this Style issue (I saw your workaround at "[api-dev] Changing font and font size of comments in Calc "). Can you leave a comment concerning feasibility (Comment 7, 12 and following) and may be some advice?
Comment 17 Timur 2017-05-23 09:46:58 UTC Comment hidden (obsolete)

On second thought, sorry, this one is for Calc, Bug 103064 is for Writer.

In current master with https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=3e4b8463f288d87f91cd5bc864d30ae02d4f5579 , there is a dedicated "Note" drawing style that is applied to new comments. So let's call this fixed.

That is:

https://git.libreoffice.org/core/+/3e4b8463f288d87f91cd5bc864d30ae02d4f5579

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/150352

Pushed to the master branch on 2023-04-18.

ATM, IDK with which Dev. version this could be tested.
