Confirmed with:
LO 4.0.0.3
Build ID: own W7 debug build
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

Picture distorted in LibreOffice Writer. All good in Word 2010.

First image was not corrupted, but the text ran over it.
Right-click - Wrap - Deselect Enable contour.
Everything works, save & reload retains it ok.

Still, let's keep as NEW as file should open ok.

Win 7 Pro 64-bit Version: 5.1.0.0.alpha1+

There were changes from OO to current 5.1+ but it was never OK.
Problem with Wrap option on fileopen is common.
