Description Ibrahim Hammad 2012-11-10 18:24:22 UTC
When composing new document using writer in Ubuntu, using Arabic fonts, everything seems fine and the file is saved. However, once the file is closed and re opened again, the formatting of the document will be different as follows:

1- The direction of the document is changed from Right to Left to become from Left to Right
2- All text align to left instead of right
3- image placed in the header (logo) will disappear, and some time will remain but is aligned to left
4- Any added fields will not be there anymore
5- the document size is set back to default (letter)

The Following describes my system:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Memory 5.8 GiB
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz × 8
Graphics: GeForce GT 540M/PCIe/SSE2
OS type: 64 bit

worth mentioning that the files are saved as DOCX under windows partition and not Linux, and noting that this happens exactly the same even when the file is saved as .odt (but also still under windows partition)

Where is the sample?

1 st trail to design a form

This form shows how the image on the header is placed to the left while originally it was on the right. Also shows the change in document size. It happened many times that when opening it it will be all left aligned while it should be right aligned

This is the same document saved in other format, and this is how it looks when opening.

This is the same form in pdf made under windows after saving it

This is the same original form designed under windows and saved there as pdf so I can use it when under Ubuntu. That was the only solution to work under Linux...go to windows, and do what you want and save it as pdf then go back to linux to use it. I think this not practical for anyone.

So far experience with writer is very bad, even still I did not report problems when using Arabic fonts. The idea is that when under the processing everything may look good but once the file is closed and reopened then the problems will come up.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

*Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (4.4.1 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

*If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

*If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

   *Update the version field
*Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
*Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

Never confirmed by QA.
Is still still a problem in 4.4.4?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
