Description john 2012-11-13 01:18:09 UTC
The documentation of LibreOffice as presented in the wiki at http://help.libreoffice.org is stagnant and has poor usability.

Plans outlined for the development of the wiki are two years old and need to be refreshed.
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Wikihelp

Tools to merge and migrate are all very well, but if it takes two years to figure out the plan, then perhaps it would be best just to let the documentation evolve anew from crowdsourced contributions. The old wiki for OpenOffice was publicly editable and increasingly was quite complete. The LibreOffice wiki is static and it is quite difficult to locate the needed information. Pages are overly fragmented into too-small chunks and navigation is not simple.

Please allow public editing of the wiki and let the masses do the work! I will start -- please send me a login with a username of 'jpye'. I am already experienced in wiki editing as you can see here:

Hi there,

http://help.libreoffice.org is converted from LibreOffice source, helpcontent2 module. We accept patches. But help wiki is read only at the moment.

We maintain translations of LibreOffice help in 57 languages, it would be impossible to keep track, if help authoring would be crowdsourced. Also, the problem of conversion wiki text back to LibreOffice source help format (or to platform dependent native help formats) has not been solved yet.

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org is the public wiki, where people can contribute freely.

You may help out the documentation team, too. See: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/

Thanks!
