Description bugquestcontri 2012-11-22 06:16:07 UTC
Created attachment 70409 [details]
draw file with screen shots and explanations

Problem description:

When I edit a graphical element (here: rectangle), insert the cursor and hit any character key or space bar, the box turns black from top left corner until the last character or space of the bottom right.
Editing of the box is only possible by accepting to “fly” (=type) fully blind.
The text box color goes back to normal color either by clicking outside the box or hitting the esc key.

Steps to reproduce:
1. place a box on top of a writer text
2. click inside the box
3. start typing

Current behavior:
Box turns black thus editing is only possible blind, Result can only be seen when cursor is outside of the box

Expected behavior:
I can see what I type character by character to control content and layout.

Platform (if different from the browser): XP / SP3

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0

I can be contacted

Sorry but the attachment made at 2012-11-22 06:16 UTC, is wrong the second one made at 2012-11-22 06:40 UTC, should be the right one. However, I cannot open and crosscheck it. When I click open in new tab I only can see windings-like characters.

Sorry, but I cannot reproduce this bug in LibreOffice 4.0 beta 1 and working in Windows 7
Comment 4 bugquestcontri 2012-12-15 03:52:28 UTC
I upgraded yesterday to 3.6.4.3 and could not see this bug in test I made right now. I will keep watching if it pops up again in the 3.6 branch and will come back. Hopefully it is only a bug in the 3.5 branch.
Comment 5 bugquestcontri 2012-12-23 05:36:28 UTC
Despite my previous comment, I am seeing the reported bug again today in Writer. (LibO 3..6.4.3) However, I could not yet identify a route cause why the bug appeared today again and will try to observe what causes the bug to appear.

Setting NEEDINFO.
Please post again if you have a reliable way to reproduce this.
Have you tried on any other platform? Seems like the kind of thing that may be Windows only.
Comment 7 bugquestcontri 2012-12-26 00:55:23 UTC
As soon as I have new information I will post it again.

Platform: I only have XP/SP3.

I found the cause of the bug. However, I did not find this bug to continue reporting here and open a new bug
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=67652

Depending on the background of a page the bug appears or does not appear.
Background
- color => no problem
- graphic => bug appears.

I could reproduce it several times.

Hi,

I see the problem in 4.0.5rc1 too.
Not specific with black over the text, but a mixture of shredderd colors & lines

The same in 3.3.0, so I guess it's an old bug ..

Setting the data for this bug accordingly.
thanks for reporting and searching!

I am glad you also found the bug in the next version to be released. The shredded and color lines I haven't seen yet.I may case it was always black.
BTW, when you look at my screen shots which I posted Nov 2012 the also have the DRAFT background.
It seems the bug is there since quite a while may be even flown over from OO.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

*Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (4.4.1 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

*If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

*If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

   *Update the version field
*Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
*Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

Sorry I cannot install 3.3 again.

I tested Version 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205) portable and Version: 4.3.6.2
Build ID: d50a87b2e514536ed401c18000dad4660b6a169e and did not see the bug anymore.

Thus, I changed the status to RESOLVED because the default NEW would not match the situation at all.
