Original .doc file considered as damaged

The first attached file cannot be opened in LO 3.5.7.2 and 3.6.3.2 (tested on Linux for the first, on Mac OS X for the second) because it's considered as damaged. Abiword is able to read it, though (but maybe not in its entirety, I cannot check).

Moreover, if I save the document from Abiword in .doc format again, and try to open it in Writer, LO hangs. Not sure the two bugs are related, since it's the same document.

I don't know what program generated the document, sadly.

Oops, while uploading the file Bugzilla detected it as text/plain, which made me understand this is actually a .docx file, not a .doc. Looks like LO completely relies on the extension, which Abiword (and probably MS Word, since people did not complain about this file) does not do. Is that something that can be fixed?

OK, let's start again with two separate reports.
