How to reproduce: Settings: Tools - Options - Language Settings - Language: User Interface: English (USA) Locale Setting: English (USA) Default Language of Documents: Western: English (USA) Asian: Chinese (Traditional) LibreOffice Impress - General - Unit of Measurement: Centimeter Problem: When setting LibreOffice Impress - View - Display - Rulers Visible to "ON" (by checking the box), LibreOffice Impress - General - Unit of Measurement changes to "Inch" automatically. Change the measurement from "Inch" to "Centimeter" manually, close and re-open Impress again, ruler disappears though the Unit of Measurement is now "Centimeter" If setting Rulers Visible to "ON" again, the above problem happens again. Writer, though have similar Unit of Measurement and Ruler settings, does not have the above problem. Tested Platform: Windows Xp sp3 32bit Simplified Chinese Windows 7 64bit Home Edition (US English) Affected Libreoffice versions: 3.6.x (all 3.6 versions, tested) 3.5 (after introducing new Impress features for sure, but not very sure which version exactly because long time ago, maybe after 3.5.3)
Thank you for reporting this. Can't reproduce the problem with my LO (3.6.0.1 and 4.1.0.0-master) on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64. Can somebody else try?
Update: Problem persists on LibO-Dev_4.0.0.0.beta1_Win_x86 tested system: Windows 7 64bit Home Edition (US English)

So, I set it to 3.6.0.0b3 to be sure, because you're not sure till what version this bug is producable. I can reproduce this bug with Mac OSX 10.8.2, LibreOffice 4.0.0.0.beta1+ (Build ID: f5bf097d6afe500ace599e90b3bdfcf2a0eb965) TinderBox: MacOSX-Intel@27-OSX_10.7.0-gcc_4.2.1_llvm, Branch:libreoffice-4-0, Time: 2012-12-18_01:26:00; No language pack installed. I used this settings as well: (In reply to comment #0) > Settings: > Tools - Options - > Language Settings - Language: > User Interface: English (USA) > Locale Setting: English (USA) > Default Language of Documents: Western: English (USA) > Asian: Chinese (Traditional) > LibreOffice Impress - General - Unit of Measurement: Centimeter I also can reproduce it with LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff). With this version I need to restart LibreOffice, but the result is the same. When I select unit of measurement as Centimeter, after the restart it is Inch (no need to play with 'Grid'.
@Thankyou Cuyper. I don't know the version means first version. Additional Information: Grid is also affected. How to reproduce: Set View-Display-Rulers Visible to "Off" (uncheck the box) while Grid-Visible Grid to "On" (check the box). When close and re-open Impress again, Grid disappears even Grid-Visible Grid is still "On" (box still checked) Tested Platform: Windows 7 64bit Home Edition (US English) Affected Libreoffice versions: 3.6.4.3 4.00 beta 2 Same Settings as my first post. Reference - Similar problem: bug 58798
Note: If I directly edit and save the default template using Centimeter, Impress opens a new presentation in Centimeter, but if I check Options-Impress-View-Display-Rulers Visible to "Off" (uncheck the box), click "OK" button, and then check Rulers Visible to "On" again (check the box). Impress resets all units to "Inch" again.

Fixed on LibreOffice_4.0.0.2 Tested on Windows Xp sp3 simplified version: - Ruler showed correct unit of measurement. - Settings won't be reset again. Will add note later when I have chance to test it on Windows 7 x64 English version.
I'm sorry to alter you bug status a bit, but RESOLVED WORKSFORME is a more propriate bug status for this. We use RESOLVED FIXED when an (assigned) developer had the intention to fix this, and we know this is fixed by a patch. Although you can't reproduce it anymore, it's quite sure this is fixed with some change in the code (but we don't know for sure). Thanks for your time filling this bug and retest it! We appreciate that :-)! If you have interest to help us triaging bugs, feel free to join our QA team https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA and https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugTriage. Kind regards, Joren
Tested on Windows 7 Home Basic 64-bit English version: - Ruler showed correct unit of measurement. - Settings won't be reset again. @Jorendc Thankyou for your kind invitation. I may not be available recently, but I will consider and figure out what suit me most. I will keep the link you gave me. Thankyou.
